Whyte v Povetkin preview: Whyte out to maintain upward momentum

Dillian Whyte puts his WBC ‘interim’ heavyweight belt on the line this Saturday night, when he takes on Alexander Povetkin in Eddie Hearn’s back garden.
Taking place at the Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex, Whyte and Povetkin are also fighting for the WBC ‘diamond’ belt in Matchroom’s Fight Camp series finale.
And there’s more riding on this too. Whyte is currently the mandatory WBC challenger to the winner of Tyson Fury versus Deontay Wilder, with an expected potential showdown in early April.

Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin
Our traders make Whyte (27-0-1) the 2/7 favourite, with Povetkin (25-2-1) the 11/4 outsider.
Since losing to Anthony Joshua at the O2 Arena back in 2015, Whyte has won 11 fights on the spin, including against Joseph Parker and twice versus Derek Chisora.
Whyte is some eight years younger than Povetkin, and is 2” taller with a 3” greater reach, but he’ll still have his work cut out for him.
Three of Whyte’s last four wins have come via Unanimous Decision, and there’s 7/5 about the Jamaican-born Brit winning by Decision of Technical Decision.
Povetkin knows his way around the ring, but the Russian turns 41-years-old next month, and 7/1 says Whyte wins the fight in Rounds 10-12, as he did versus Mariusz Wach last December and Chisora in 2018.

Chris Kongo v Luther Clay
A welterweight clash for the WBO Global Title, our traders make Chris Kongo (11-0) 2/3 to defeat 5/4 shot Luther Clay (13-1), with a draw at 18/1.
Kongo, 27, has had to be patient while waiting for a chance to fight on the big stage, and after joining Whyte’s management camp earlier this year, has finally got his opportunity.
Jack Cullen v Zak Chelli
The odds suggest this Super-Middleweight contest between Jack Cullen (18-2) and Zak Chelli (9-1) could go either way.
Cullen, the more experienced of the duo is the 8/13 favourite, but Chelli is given more than a fighting chance at 5/4.
Katie Taylor v Delfine Persoon
Ireland’s Katie Taylor (15-0) defends her WBC, IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight belts in her second showdown with Belgium’s Delfine Persoon (44-2).
The pair fought in Madison Square Garden in June 2019, with Taylor winning via Majority Decision. Our traders make her 1/3 favourite, with Persoon the 11/4 outsider.
Persoon pushed Taylor all the way in New York, but now the Bray Bomber is keen to land a statement victory this time around.
