Chamakh playing for Arsenal future in Manchester City clash
Published:Marouane Chamakh’s Arsenal career appears to be at a crossroads and if he fails to produce a performance of note in the Carling Cup against Manchester City, then he may be allowed to leave the Emirates in January.
Chamakh’s Arsenal career started brightly with ten goals in his first 23 appearances, but something has gone majorly wrong since.
To be fair to Chamakh, opportunities have been scarce in the past year given the scoring exploits of Robin Van Persie and the fact that the Dutchman has remarkably managed to avoid injury for a lengthy spell.
Still, although mainly reduced to making appearances as a substitute, Chamakh has done little to prove that he warrants more opportunities by netting just twice in his last 33 appearances.
Despite this disappointing strike rate, Chamakh has still caught the attention of Paris Saint Germain and a move to the wealthy French outfit could be on the cards, with a £10m offer reportedly being lined up.
And Chamakh already has a proven history of scoring with regularity in Ligue 1, having starred for Bordeaux before arriving in London.
Chamakh could be in last-chance saloon at Arsenal and is set to start in attack with Park Chu-Young for the Carling Cup quarter final with Manchester City.
It is 11/2 that Chamakh opens the scoring in the Carling Cup odds and this may be a big price given that Arsenal have home advantage and will be playing against a defence that is expected to be without Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott.
Meanwhile, Chamakh is 7/4 to score at any time, but punters should be warned that this is just in the normal 90 minutes and does not include extra time or a potential penalty if a shoot-out is needed to find a winner.
