The definitive FIFA Club World Cup winners list
Published:
Check out Ladbrokes' FIFA Club World Cup winners list, with 12 teams earning the right to be called world champions since the tournament's inception in 2000.
Over the last decade or so, the European teams have taken full charge of the CWC, with the winner coming from England, Germany or Spain in each of the past 11 tournaments - but that wasn't always the way.
Below, Ladbrokes runs you through every winner of the FIFA Club World Cup. Will we see a new champion this year?
The FIFA Club World Cup winners list
Corinthians (2000, 2012)
The first ever winner of the FIFA Club World Cup was Brazilian side Corinthians, who won the inaugural competition in their own country back in 2000. A penalty shootout win over fellow Brazilians Vasco da Gama saw them lift the trophy in front of more than 70,000 fans at the Maracana.
12 years later, Corinthians won the Club World Cup again, this time beating a strong Chelsea side in the final thanks to a goal by José Guerrero. This victory made Corinthians just the second team to win the Club World Cup more than once - but it was also the last time a team outside of Europe lifted the trophy.
São Paulo (2005)
Due to a number of issues, the Club World Cup didn't return until 2005, but the second winners of the tournament were São Paulo. The Brazilians beat Premier League side Liverpool in the final, with a solitary goal from Mineiro ensuring that the trophy stayed in South America.
São Paulo's starting 11 featured 10 Brazilian players, with Uruguayan Diego Lugano being the only exception, and had legendary goalscoring goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni as the captain. Lining up against the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, the mid-table Brazilian side upset the odds and claimed victory in Japan.
Internacional (2006)
The third Brazilian side to be crowned world champions were Internacional, who claimed the trophy after an impressive 1-0 victory over Barcelona. With the Barca side featuring the likes of Ronaldinho, Deco and Andres Iniesta, Adriano Gabiru's goal in the final 10 minutes secured a famous win for Internacional - who had a young Alexandre Pato on the wing.
More than 60,000 fans flocked to Yokohama to watch the contest, as a Brazilian side upset a fancied European giant for the second consecutive season. But despite the initial South American dominance, Internacional are still the last team from outside of Europe to win the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time.
AC Milan (2007)
With Milan's victory over Argentine side Boca Juniors in 2007, the era of South American dominance in the Club World Cup was officially over. Despite a 77th-minute red card, AC Milan won 4-2 in their first CWC final, with a Pippo Inzaghi brace adding to goals from Alessandro Nesta and Kaka.
This was the first Club World Cup final to see both sides score at least one goal, and having just won the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League, the trophy rounded off an excellent year for AC Milan. However, somewhat surprisingly, this remains Milan's only appearance in a FIFA Club World Cup final.
Manchester United (2008)
The first ever English side to join the FIFA Club World Cup winners list was Manchester United, with the Red Devils beating Ecuadorian side LDU Quito in a closely contested final. Like Milan before them, United won the CWC despite having a defender sent off in the final, and also celebrated Champions League glory a few months before.
In the 2008 Club World Cup final, Wayne Rooney scored the only goal to sink a stubborn LDU Quito side, making Man United the first of four Premier League teams to be crowned world champions - with England now boasting more unique winners than any other country.

Barcelona (2009, 2011, 2015)
Just three years after that surprising defeat to Internacional, Barcelona got their world title badge with a 2-1 win over Argentine outfit Estudiantes, with Lionel Messi scoring an extra-time winner after Pedro's 89th-minute equaliser had rescued them from another embarrassing loss.
Messi also scored in comprehensive victories in both 2011 and 2015 to help Barca become the first team ever to win the trophy twice, and also then the first team to win the CWC three times. These triumphs came within an incredible era for Barcelona, which included three Champions Leagues, eight La Liga titles and six Copa del Reys.
Inter Milan (2010)
Continuing the trend, Inter Milan built on their Champions League triumph with Club World Cup victory a few months later, beating African side TP Mazembe in the UAE. A 3-0 victory with goals from Goran Pandev, Samuel Eto'o and Jonathan Biabiany sealed a comfortable win for the Italian side, who joined their city rivals as the only Italian winners of the CWC.
2010 was in fact the last time an Italian side featured in the Club World Cup final, with a certain Cristian Chivu starting for the Nerazzurri. The Romanian is now managing the Milan giants, leading his side into the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with hopes of replicating his 2010 triumph.
Bayern Munich (2013, 2020)
The one and only German side to feature on the Club World Cup winners list, Bayern Munich etched their name into the history books with a 2-0 win over Moroccan side Raja Casablanca in 2013. First half goals from Dante and Thiago saw the Bundesliga giants over the line, just a few months before a number of the Bayern players also went on to win the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
Bayern Munich then picked up their second world title in 2020 with a 1-0 victory over Mexico's UANL, with Benjamin Pavard scoring the only goal. This victory meant Bayern became the first team outside of England or Spain to win the Club World Cup since... they did it in 2013, which highlights the dominance of La Liga and Premier League sides in recent years.
Real Madrid (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022)
Speaking of dominance, it seems fitting that the next winners were Real Madrid, who have now won the FIFA Club World Cup more often than any other side. Their 2-0 win over San Lorenzo in 2014 kicked off a period of real control for Spanish sides, with no other country producing a winner until 2019.
Real Madrid's most recent victory came in 2022, where they beat Saudi giants Al Hilal 5-3 in Morocco. Incidentally, these two sides have been paired together in Group G at the 2025 CWC, with their intriguing matchup making our list of must watch games at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Liverpool (2019)
The team to end the run of Spanish winners was Liverpool, who beat Flamengo 1-0 thanks to an extra-time winner from Roberto Firmino. This came after Firmino had scored a stoppage-time winner in the sei-finals to get the Reds past Monterrey, so the Brazilian more than made his mark on the tournament.
Liverpool - who are early favourites to win the 2025/26 Premier League - went on to clinch their first ever PL title just a few months later, and kickstarted a promising period for English sides on the global stage.
Chelsea (2021)
After winning their second Champions League trophy in 2021, Chelsea followed it up with their first ever FIFA Club World Cup triumph, beating Palmeiras 2-1 after extra-time. A Romelu Lukaku goal and a penalty from Champions League hero Kai Havertz was enough to ensure the Blues overcame a tricky Palmeiras side.
Chelsea will be hoping to add to their maiden victory by reclaiming their crown at the 2025 CWC, and are heavy favourites to win Group D ahead of ES Tunis, Los Angeles FC and Flamengo. Can Enzo Maresca's side use the momentum from their recent Conference League triumph and claim another piece of silverware?
Manchester City (2023)
Finally, we have English juggernaut Manchester City, who are the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions. A resounding 4-0 win saw them overcome Fluminese in 2023, with Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden finding the net to complete the silverware set for Pep Guardiola and his side.
City became the sixth different side to beat a Brazilian team in the CWC final, and could become just the second team to retain their title should they claim victory in 2025. With a host of new signings, an exciting group and motivation to show the world what they've been missing, Man City will be ready to claim back-to-back Club World Cups this year.
