Crystal Palace v Liverpool preview

Arne Slot has settled into life at Liverpool perhaps far quicker than many would have expected him to do, with the Dutch manager leading the Reds to the top of the Premier League as we approach gameweek seven.

Liverpool have only conceded two goals in the Premier League so far this season, and will fancying their chances of beating Crystal Palace this weekend, remaining at the summit of England's top-flight in the process.

The likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz have starred for the Reds this season, despite their futures being very much up in the air at the end of Jurgen Klopp's reign, and they'll be equally vital in the upcoming game at Selhurst Park.

Things are going better for Liverpool this season than many fans would have expected, and the exact opposite can be said for Crystal Palace who definitely haven't been as exciting as they were during the second half of the 2023/24 season.

After losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Oliver Glasner has struggled somewhat in the first few games of the 24/25 campaign, and the Eagles find themselves in the relegation zone, just two points off bottom place.

And unfortunately for them, very few pundits expect them to pick up their first win of the season against the league's leaders, with Liverpool the clear favourites with the bookies to walk out of Saturday's 12:30pm kickoff with all three points.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool team news

As for the team news, Liverpool are without Harvey Elliot, the player who scored a late winner in a 2-1 win for the Reds against Palace at Selhurst Park last season.

Federico Chiesa is a doubt for the game though, with Slot announcing in his pre-conference before the game against Bologna in the Champions League that the winger has a minor injury and may not be fit enough to feature against Palace.

The midfield three is likely to stay as Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but Curtis Jones will be pushing for a start after starring for the Reds in the Carabao Cup 5-1 win over against West Ham.

Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace

As for Palace's team news, it doesn't make for great reading, with Chadi Riad and Chris Richards both missing until October and December 2024 respectively.

Also missing is Cheik Doucoure, a man who Liverpool were reportedly interested in bringing into the club once Fabinho left for Saudi Arabia in August 2023, but nothing materialised on that front.

Rob Holding is also missing, but there's no known reason for his absence. Matheus Franca has been absent for quite a few games, but the talented Brazilian might be able to return for the game against Liverpool.

Possible starting line-ups:

Crystal Palace - Henderson; Chalobah, Guehi, Lacroix; Munoz, Wharton, Lerma, Mitchell; Eze, Mateta, Nketiah

Liverpool - Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez

Crystal Palace v Liverpool tips & predictions

As noted, Liverpool are the standout favourites for the game against Crystal Palace, and as one of the three front-runners to win the league come May 2025, Slot and co will be eager to make a big statement at Selhurst Park.

We're expecting Liverpool to win, and we're also predicting that the 'Egyptian King' Mohamed Salah finds the back of the net, just as he did in his last Premier League game away at Wolves in the final fixture of September 2024.

For our final tip coming from the Palace v Liverpool game, we're tipping Jefferson Lerma to end up with a yellow card in what is expected to be his return to the midfield.

Liverpool's midfield three have all been great this season, and with the tough-tackling Lerma set to feature in the middle of the park alongside Adam Wharton, we're pegging get stuck in and end up getting carded.
