Dan Skelton: I would like to think he will go very well

Top trainer and Ladbrokes ambassador Dan Skelton has plenty of horses in action on Saturday and gave us the rundown on their chances of success at Aintree and Wincanton.

Real Stone – 2.10 Aintree

He loves bad ground and two miles is a great trip for him on that type of ground as well. I would like to think he will go very well. It is our first run of the season and a few of ours are needing it but he is a light-framed horse and we have done plenty with him. This is my best chance of the weekend.

West Balboa – 3.20 Aintree

She starts the season in a conditions hurdle. I think she has a great chance, albeit there are only three runners. It is her first run of the year, so I am not saying she is going to be at 100%. I am looking forward to getting her going.

Go Steady – 1.15 Wincanton

I think he will need the run. He is an older horse now and I don’t think you can put him under too much pressure too soon in the year. He will come on a good bit for the run.

Ashtown Lad – 2.25 Wincanton

His main early-season target is the Becher but this race is a nice race for him and I think he will run well. He was second first time out last season over hurdles and he’s not a hurdler. He did run well over hurdles on a number of occasions last year, but I do think he is much better over fences.

Ballygriffincottage – 2.25 Wincanton

Ballygriffincottage is in great health but the form isn’t quiet there at the track. He had wind surgery over the summer, and it was good to get him started at Newton Abbott although the trip wasn’t ideal for him. I was just happy we got him started but this race will tell us much more. He was very progressive this time last year before a few issues so let’s hope he can return to that exciting form.

Sacre Coeur – 3pm Wincanton

She has been winning over fences and this looks a nice opportunity to try and get some black type here. If we can get that, that would be great. She hasn’t got leading numbers with the front two so we will be respectful of our win chances!

Vicki Vale – 3.32 Wincanton

It is her first run of the year in quite a valuable race. She won first time out last year over an intermediate trip and I am hopeful she will go nicely here. She is a mare who will hopefully be progressive and we can get her season off to a good start.

Don Occhetti – 4.10 Wincanton

He is a nice horse by Presenting. He is a strong horse at five-years-old now. He should acquit himself well.

Kattegat – 4.10 Wincanton

She is a nice filly and will be a jumper down the line, but I won’t be expecting fireworks in a bumper.
