Dan Skelton fancies Midnight River for New Year’s Day coup at Cheltenham
Published:
Ladbrokes ambassador Dan Skelton runs the rule over his five runners at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.
He definitely has an each-way chance here. He will appreciate the step up in trip. He hasn’t got form as fancy as the others but I do think he will run nicely.

Spiritofthegames was second here last time over this trip and gets a pair of blinkers here. We thought we can’t go through his career without putting them on just in case that is what was missing. He is in good form at home so let’s see how we get on.
The ground is soft and it will really suit him. We have kept him for this race and didn’t declare for the December Gold Cup (even though it was off). This has always been the target. He is nice and fresh and the track will be better for him too. He is our best chance of the day.
He is biting off a big chunk here. He just hasn’t had the form this season and I don’t know why. He likes this track though so we thought we would give it a go.

He ran really well last time and wasn’t beaten by far at Sandown. He is a confirmed three miler which is fantastic so we have chances.
Dan
