Djokovic to prevail in three best bets of Shanghai Masters

Published:

We’re down to the final four in Shanghai and both semi-finals are absolute doozies, with the unexpected pair of Feliciano Lopez and Gilles Simon in one, and the altogether more routine double act of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the other.

Here are our three best bets for the semi-finals in the Shanghai Masters.

Feliciano Lopez to beat Gilles Simon 2-1 @ 2/1

The pair have only met three times, with Lopez carrying a 2-1 head-to-head advantage into this semi-final clash.

The Spaniard has beaten Simon in both of their most recent matches, with the Frenchman’s only victory coming back in 2008.

As with each of the pair’s quarter-finals, it’s worth backing this to go the distance, but we fancy Lopez to come out on top.

Roger Federer to win the first set @ 7/4

The Swiss legend might not be quite the irresistible force he was in his younger days, but he’s very rarely slow out of the traps, and even Djokovic can find it impossible to live with Federer early on in matches.

Federer has won the first set in three of their four encounters in 2014, including snatching the tie-break in the opener of their epic final clash at Wimbledon in their last match.

Novak Djokovic to beat Roger Federer 2-1 @ 3/1

The Serbian is in truly supreme form on hard courts, having won the Beijing Masters without dropping a set and flying through the rounds in Shanghai as well.

His straight sets victory over David Ferrer was emphatic, and Djokovic has had the measure of Federer on hard courts since 2011, winning nine of 11 matches.

The pair rarely leave the crowd wanting more so expect three sets, but back the 2012 and 2013 champion to book a place in the final once again.
