Sack Race: Pellegrini and Pochettino see axe odds slashed

Harry Redknapp continues to head the Sack Race market but the QPR boss has seen his odds drift and finds himself in unfamiliar company at the head of the market.

Redknapp’s R’s were well worth their point against the champions at Loftus Road and there would have been few complaints if the hosts had recorded a victory over the Citizens and as such the Hoops manager has drifted to 3/1 in the Next Premier League Manager to Leave market.

His City counterpart, however, has moved drastically in the opposite direction, with Manuel Pellegrini’s price dropping from 66/1 at the start of October to 6/1 at close of play in west London.

City have now won just one of their last six matches – their worst run since a spell from November 21 to December 9 2012 – but anyone tempted to pile in on the Chilean should hold off.

Immediately after that dismal run, which culminated in a 3-2 derby defeat to Manchester United, the Sky Blues reeled off a staggering eight wins from their next nine games.

With the players at his disposal, Pellegrini has all the tools to preside over a similarly spectacular upturn in form and while talk of a title tilt is waning a top four spot should prove a formality.

Instead the value could lie in Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has seen his early season price of 66/1 decimated in recent weeks.

In the wake of Spurs’ defeat against Stoke, leaving the Lilywhites with just two wins in nine Premier League games, the Argentine has been slashed to 7/1 to be next to get the chop.

While things have been going swimmingly for Spurs in the Europa League their domestic form has not reached the heights expected by both the board and the fans after the heralded arrival of the manager who worked wonders with Southampton last season.

With Hull, Everton and Chelsea the next three games for Pochettino’s men, a win against the Tigers looks imperative.

A return of zero points from those three games could see the White Hart Lane hierarchy backed into a corner.

And, while no one likes to see a manager put out to pasture before he’s been given time to stamp his authority on a club, it would not be a huge surprise to see a 12th managerial change in 13 years at Spurs!
