Dundee Utd v Rangers betting tips and odds

Rangers must dust themselves down from Tuesday’s Champions League disappointment as the Scottish Premiership champions return to domestic action at Dundee United.

Gers lost 2-1 at Malmo in the first leg of a third-round qualifier, but hope to bounce back in the lunchtime kick-off at Tannadice where they are the 2/9 favourites to win, the same price as they are to retain their title.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will hope for a confidence-boosting win ahead of next week’s second leg so let’s examine the markets and odds in our Dundee Utd v Rangers betting tips.

Match Odds

Rangers went through the season unbeaten en route to their first title in 10 years, winning 32 of their 38 games, and they got off to a great start in the new campaign with a 3-0 victory over Livingston.

Three of those wins last season came against the Terrors, who conceded 10 times, losing by at least two goals in all but one of those games.

The visitors are 4/6 to win by at least two goals, but they can also be backed at 31/20 to win both halves as they did in two of those matches.

Rangers were also 2-0 up at half-time in two of those encounters and 2-1 ahead in the clash at Tannadice, so we go 9/2 on the former outcome heading into the break.

Their opponents finished ninth last season and began the new campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Aberdeen, so Rangers to win to nil, as they did against Livingston at the weekend, is available at 5/6.

However, they won and conceded in two of their three meetings last season which can be backed at 11/5 as one of Saturday’s Dundee Utd v Rangers betting tips.

In the #GetAPrice markets, the Light Blues are 5/4 to win either half and to score +1.5 goals in the match with a clean sheet.

Talking Tactics

Gerrard hopes to have Joe Aribo back for Saturday after the midfielder missed out in Malmo and it remains to be seen whether striker Alfredo Morelos will be available following a spell in quarantine.

Rangers lined up in a 4-3-3 in Sweden with Swiss striker Cedric Itten spearheading the attack, but Fashion Sakala and Ianis Hagi may return to the starting line-up.

Dundee United boss Tam Courts played three at the back and five in midfield at Pittodrie where Lawrence Shankland led the line, although we could see a beefed-up defence at the weekend.

Goalscorer Odds

Sakala is the 14/5 favourite to get the ball rolling and 19/20 to score any time, while Hagi is 6/1 and 21/10 in both markets having scored the opener in last weekend’s win against Livi.

James Tavernier and Ryan Kent scored in two of last season’s games against the Terrors and they are 9/2 and 5/1 to break the deadlock or 13/8 and 9/5 to find the net.

Shankland and Nicky Clark are 12/1 to grab the game’s opening goal or 4/1 and 9/2 to score.
