EFL Championship 2024/25: The dramatic fight for promotion
Published:
With the end of the EFL Championship season rapidly approaching, Ladbrokes takes a look at the brilliant battle for promotion to the Premier League, with almost half of the league still in with a chance of securing top flight football.
With Leeds United and Burnley both securing their promotion back to the Premier League with wins on Easter Monday, all eyes now turn to the push for play-off places, as a handful of teams fight it out for the remaining two spots.
The title is also yet to be decided, with Leeds and Burnley now hoping to crown their seasons with silverware.
Championship 2024/25 Odds
The race for the title
With promotion secured, Leeds and Burnley now have the title to play for, with the two top teams currently level on points with two games remaining.
With vastly superior goal difference, Leeds are the favourites to lift the trophy on the final day, but Burnley will push them all the way - with just two league defeats all season.
Leeds finished third last season as Leicester and Ipswich took the top two, so winning the league will be the perfect way for Daniel Farke's side to put that disappointment behind them as they look forward to a year among England's elite.
The dramatic fight for play-offs
The Championship play-offs are notoriously dramatic, with twists, turns, and constant surprises often changing the picture up until the final whistle on the final day.
Teams who eventually finish third to sixth will qualify for the play-offs, playing a home and away leg against a fellow promotion hopeful with the aim of reaching the Wembley final, where the third promoted team is decided once and for all.
Last season's play-offs were won by Southampton, who are currently on track to record one of the lowest point hauls in Premier League history, and with Leicester also relegated already, the jump from the Championship to the top flight has proven to be too much in recent years.

With Sheffield United and Sunderland's play-off places secured, Bristol City are odds-on to finish fifth or six, while Frank Lampard's resurgent Coventry are next in line according to Ladbrokes.
Middlesborough and Millwall are also given a great chance to secure their play-off places, while Blackburn Rovers - who narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season - are just 12/1 to finish inside the top six.
West Brom have fallen away and are now priced at 150/1, needing a miracle to reach the play-offs this year, but the battle for those two remaining spots inside the top six is sure to roll on until the last kick of the season.
