England v Spain Euro 2024 final preview
Published:
The final of Euro 2024 is now confirmed, with Spain and England battling it out to win this summer's major International tournament.
49 matches have been played at Euro 2024, and the best two teams have now revealed themselves, with England and Spain going to battle on Sunday evening in Berlin, with Europe's top international prize on the line.
Will England win their first-ever European Championship, or will Spanish youngsters Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams inspire their national side to glory for the first time since 2012?
England v Spain preview & betting odds
England haven't had the best Euro 2024 tournament, scraping through with last-minute goals and on penalties in the knockout stage, but they find themselves in the final of the competition, 90 minutes away from making history.
To Gareth Southgate's credit, he started playing with wing-backs and three central defenders in the quarter-final against Switzerland, continuing that against the Netherlands in the semi-final, and England have looked a lot better since then.
The system allows Bukayo Saka to remain high and wide, whilst also freeing up both Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden to play centrally, ensuring neither is forced out wide.

Spain, on the other hand, have been fantastic at Euro 2024. They're the only nation in the competition to have won all their matches, only conceding three goals in their six matches, despite playing the likes of France, Italy, Croatia and Germany.
Yamal and Williams have shined for Spain, but Luis de la Fuente has also been able to rely on Rodri and Dani Olmo in the middle of the park, both of whom are in the running to win the Player of the Tournament, with the latter also one of the front-runners for the Golden Boot.
Spain are the favourites to win in 90 minutes, and also seen as having a 60% chance of lifting the trophy on Sunday night, which should come as a warning to England's players, fans and coaching staff.
England v Spain team news
Spain will be without Pedri for the final, after he was taken off in the first few minutes of the last eight tie against Germany. Olmo comes in to take his place, but as one of the players of Euro 2024 so far, that won't be too big of a blow to Spain.
However, coming back into the side will be both Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand. Both defenders missed the game against France through suspension, but are able to be called upon once again.

As for England, expect the new shape to continue. Luke Shaw came on after 45 minutes, and with the high stakes final now just a few days away, Southgate will have a big decision to make over whether he starts the Man United man from the off on Sunday.
While some will be calling for both Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins to start after they linked up for England's winner against the Netherlands, this writer expects Harry Kane and Foden to be selected once again.
The probable teams for the match are:
Spain: Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella; Ruiz, Rodri, Olmo; Lamal, Morata, Williams
England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi; Saka, Rice, Mainoo, Shaw; Bellingham, Foden, Kane
