England win another series as they prepare for the Ashes
Published:England proved why they are Twenty20 world champions with a 2-0 series win over Pakistan in Cardiff last night.
Michael Yardy was the star of the first game but it was the England seamers who shone last night – Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan and Ryan Sidebottom took eight of the wickets as Pakistan were bowled out for a meagre 89.
You could forgive England if they offered up some sympathy to a Pakistan side that is in turmoil but another ruthless performance from England just strengthened their position as T20 world leaders.
Paul Collingwood described the bowling attack as “a unit doing fantastically well”, and the one day international captain will be hoping his side can produce the same consistency when they head down under.
The England batsman chased down the target in 14 overs but it was left to Eoin Morgan and Michael Hardy to once again find the winning runs as the top order failed to establish themselves.
Collingwood top scored with 21 from 24 balls but will be worried about the form of his top order as England look to rub more salt into the wound with the ODI’s against Pakistan that start on Friday.
England’s batsman failed to perform in the Test series and the ODI’s will be the only international games in which to find some form before heading to Australia at the end of November.
England are 9/4 to emerge from Australia victorious but many will see a series draw, 5/1, as a fantastic result considering England haven’t won an Ashes series in Australia since 1987.
Australia are 8/13 favourites to win the Ashes on home soil. See the full Australia vs England Ashes betting market here.
