Head coach Sarina Wiegman has announced her England Women’s World Cup 2023 squad for Australia and New Zealand.
Here, we take a look at Wiegman’s 23-strong group for the tournament, which starts on July 20.
Goalkeepers
MARY EARPS (Club: Manchester United, Age: 30, Caps: 33, Goals: 0)
Started all six games for the Lionesses at Euro 2022 and winner of the Women’s Super League Golden Gloves Award this week after setting a new record of 14 clean sheets for the season.

ELLIE ROEBUCK (Club: Manchester City, Age: 23, Caps: 11, Goals: 0)
Overcame a long-term calf injury to make Wiegman’s Euro 2022 squad and will challenge for the number one spot. Missed City’s last-day WSL win over Everton after being sent off in the previous week’s defeat to Manchester United.
HANNAH HAMPTON (Club: Aston Villa, Age: 22, Caps: 2, Goals: 0)
Her fine form for Villa this season has propelled her back into the reckoning having been left out of Wiegman’s squad for eight months after Euro 2022 due to personal reasons.
Defenders
JESS CARTER (Club: Chelsea, Age: 25, Caps: 17, Goals: 1)
Carter was on the periphery during Euro 2022 but her versatility across the backline and in midfield has made her integral to Chelsea’s success this season as they completed a third successive domestic double.
LUCY BRONZE (Club: Barcelona, Age: 31, Caps: 104, Goals: 12)
Bronze, world player of the year in 2020 and England’s most-capped player in the squad, has recovered after keyhole knee surgery in April and is hoping to win her second Champions League winners’ medal when Barcelona play Wolfsburg in Eindhoven on June 3.
ALEX GREENWOOD (Club: Manchester City, Age: 29, Caps: 74, Goals: 5)
Another of the Lionesses’ most experienced players and a Champions League winner with former club Lyon, the centre-back will be appearing at her third successive World Cup.

MILLIE BRIGHT (Club: Chelsea, Age: 29, Caps: 66, Goals: 5)
Bright, an ever-present for England at Euro 2022, is hoping to make a full recovery in time to captain the Lionesses Down Under after missing the last two months of the season due to a knee injury sustained in March.
NIAMH CHARLES (Club: Chelsea, Age: 23, Caps: 6, Goals: 0)
Joined Chelsea from hometown club Liverpool in 2020 and since switching from pacy winger to full-back has established herself as a key player this season for Emma Hayes’ double-winning Blues.
ESME MORGAN (Club: Manchester City, Age: 22, Caps: 4, Goals: 0)
A fractured leg in September 2021 delayed her England debut after being named in Wiegman’s squad for World Cup qualifiers and has been tipped as a future Lionesses captain by City boss Gareth Taylor.
LOTTE WUBBEN-MOY (Club: Arsenal, Age: 24, Caps: 10, Goals: 0)
Got no playing time during Euro 2022 but in the absence of injured Arsenal team-mate Leah Williamson has racked up the minutes in the WSL this season and could play a bigger role for the Lionesses.
Midfielders
KEIRA WALSH (Club: Barcelona, Age: 26, Caps: 58, Goals: 0)
Became Bronze’s team-mate at Barcelona when the Catalans paid a world-record £400,000 fee for the former Manchester City midfielder. Won player of the match in England’s Euro 2022 final win over Germany at Wembley.
GEORGIA STANWAY (Club: Bayern Munich, Age: 24, Caps: 49, Goals: 15)
Joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City before starring for the Lionesses at Euro 2022 as she formed an outstanding partnership with Walsh in midfield and scored one of the goals of the tournament against Spain in the last eight.
ELLA TOONE (Club: Manchester United, Age: 23, Caps: 31, Goals: 16)
Another Lionesses heroine in the Euro 2022 final against Germany, Toone scored the game’s opening goal seven minutes after stepping off the bench with a brilliant chipped finish over the goalkeeper.
JORDAN NOBBS (Club: Aston Villa, Age: 30, Caps: 71, Goals: 8)
Missed out on Euro 2022 due to a knee ligament injury and joined Aston Villa in January after scoring 81 goals in 270 appearances for Arsenal, with whom she won 12 trophies, including three WSL titles.

KATIE ZELEM (Club: Manchester United, Age: 27, Caps: 7, Goals: 0)
The former Juventus midfielder has been a driving force for United as captain this season as they finished runners-up in the WSL and reached the FA Cup final.
LAURA COOMBES (Club: Manchester City, Age: 32, Caps: 4, Goals: 0)
Won back a regular starting place at Manchester City this season and was rewarded with her first England call-up in seven years when included in Wiegman’s squad for this year’s Arnold Clark Cup.
Forwards
RACHEL DALY (Club: Aston Villa, Age: 31, Caps: 68, Goals: 13)
Excelled for the Lionesses as a left-back during Euro 2022 but after joining Aston Villa from Houston Dash last summer recently equalled Vivianne Miedema’s record for most goals in a WSL season (22).
LAUREN HEMP (Club: Manchester City, Age: 22, Caps: 37, Goals: 10)
Hemp, who has just completed her fifth season at Manchester City, gives England a cutting edge down the left. Started in all six of the Lionesses’ games at Euro 2022 and played all 120 minutes in the final.
CHLOE KELLY (Club: Manchester City, Age: 25, Caps: 25, Goals: 6)
Stepped off the bench to score England’s extra-time winner in the Euro 2022 final after overcoming a serious knee injury sustained in 2021 in time to force her way back into the squad.

ALESSIA RUSSO (Club: Manchester United, Age: 24, Caps: 21, Goals: 11)
Manchester United’s player of the year, who scored 10 WSL goals this season, is still being linked with a summer move to Arsenal, who had a world-record bid for the player rejected in January.
LAUREN JAMES (Club: Chelsea, Age: 21, Caps: 10, Goals: 1)
The Chelsea forward, younger sister of England defender Reece James, is widely regarded as one of the WSL’s most exciting talents. Chelsea paid a reported £200,000 to sign the striker from Manchester United in July 2021 when she was 19.
BETH ENGLAND (Club: Tottenham, Age: 28, Caps: 21, Goals: 11)
Has forced her way back into the Lionesses’ squad for the first time since last summer after scoring 12 goals in 12 WSL appearances since joining Tottenham from Chelsea in January.
KATIE ROBINSON (Club: Brighton, Age: 20, Caps: 4, Goals: 0)
Emerged as another star of the future with an impressive display in her first Lionesses start in February, setting up Daly for the opening goal with a superb cross in a 2-1 win against Italy in the Arnold Clark Cup.
