The UK will finish last among the Eurovision Song Contest’s Big Five if the latest Ladbrokes odds are any indication.

The bookies make it as long as 16/1 that Remember Monday are the highest-placed entry among the Big Five. France are the 1/5 favourites for that honour, followed by Italy (6/1), Germany (12/1) and Spain (16/1).

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said: “Their energetic song has been well received, but the odds suggest it’s set to be a Saturday to forget for Remember Monday.”

Sweden (1/1) are the heavy favourites to win a record eighth contest through comedy-folk song “Bara Bada Bastu”.

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes said: “It already feels like the UK are resigned to another year of Eurovision hurt, but the odds suggest the fun and infectiousness of Remember Monday’s entry could see them land in the top 10.”

Sweden have been favourites since late February and are even odds on for a record eighth Eurovision triumph. However, a groundswell of support for JJ’s operatic “Wasted Love” has seen Austria priced at 5/2 creating more of a two-horse race with Sweden.

France are fourth in the betting but have lengthened to 14/1 from 7/1, with the Netherlands having overtaken them. The UK and Ireland are expected to be also-rans with respective 66/1 and 100/1 odds.

Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes: “It’s looked like Sweden’s contest to lose for a long time, but this odds shift is making people think again. Those who phone in to vote for Austria will be hoping their support isn’t wasted love.”
