FA Community Shield 2024 odds: Man United v Man City betting tips
Published:
In what is the curtain raiser for the 2024/25 Premier League season, arch rivals Man United and Man City share the field at Wembley Stadium in the 2024 FA Community Shield.
Man City will take part in the 2024 Community Shield after winning last season's Premier League, their fourth title in four years, whilst Man United earned their spot after beating City in the FA Cup final in May at Wembley.
Had City beaten United in the FA Cup final, as many expected them to do, it'd have been Arsenal playing Pep Guardiola's side in this year's Community Shield, as was the case last year, but now fans have a Manchester Derby to look forward to in London.
The game takes place on August 10, six days before United kick off the 2024/25 Premier League season on Friday Night Football at Old Trafford against Fulham.
So, now that's all said and done, join Ladbrokes as we run you through the 2024 FA Community Shield betting tips from our team of experts and analysts.
2024 FA Community Shield betting tips & odds
Man United lift the trophy
The Community Shield often throws up a few surprises, given that it actually takes place prior to the Premier League starting, and this year's iteration could be no different.
Man City are the favourites to win the Premier League come May 2025, and very few expect Man United to finish above them once all is said and done, but what if Guardiola's side lose to their rivals in the Community Shield this time around?
United have had more of their regular first team starters in pre season training than Man City, with the likes of Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne only really joining up with the squad five days before the Community Shield.
As such, we're predicting that it's Man United who lift the trophy at Wembley this weekend, with Erik ten Hag managing to beat Guardiola's side at Wembley in back-to-back matches.
Erling Haaland to score
Erling Haaland has had a full preseason with Man City though, having not qualified for Euro 2024 with Norway. Despite carrying a few injuries, he's been in prolific goalscoring form in his recent friendlies, and we expect the ex-Dortmund man to carry that form into Wembley.
As such, we're pegging Haaland to find the back of the net at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, putting the ball past Andre Onana in the Man United goal.
Man United to win on penalties
We previously noted that we're expecting Man United to lift the trophy at Wembley on Saturday, but our experts don't actually think the Red Devils will win the game in 90 minutes.
Instead, we're pegging Ten Hag's men to pick up the win on penalties, with that being the method of victory in three of the last five Community Shields, dating back to 2019 when City beat Liverpool on penalties.
