Falkirk showing title credentials during international break

The international break suspended most games across Scotland, but there were still a few matches going on in the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship and below.
Scotland’s national side took no part in the latest set of internationals, meaning fans of football would have to look elsewhere to get their fix.
Falkirk’s clash with Alloa was therefore the biggest game in the country over the weekend, with the Bairns showing what they’re made of.
In one of only two games being played in their division, Peter Houston’s men smashed in five goals as they ran out comfortable winners.
Falkirk went 3-0 up within the first half after a hattrick from John Baird, who has been his the star of this team this season.
Baird opened the scoring after 12 minutes and carried on causing problems from there, completing his goal-getting in the 31st and 44th minute after some industrious work.
That brings his tally for the season to 11, with only Rangers’ in-form Martyn Waghorn keeping him off the top of the scoring charts with his 14 goals.
Bob McHugh and Luke Leahy completed the rout, and now Falkirk find themselves only one point behind second place Hibernian.
Rangers are five points clear atop the table, but this win for the Bairns will have piled on the pressure on both the league leaders and Hibs.
The Glasgow side’s first dropped points of the season, coming in a 2-1 loss to Alan Stubbs’ men at the start of the month, means the title race isn’t as open and shut as it originally seemed.
Following the 5-0 win, Falkirk are now eight points clear of fourth-placed Morton, joining the top two as front runners for promotion and transforming the campaign into a three-horse race.
