Brazil v Chile betting tips and preview

The group stage of Copa America is over with Brazil and Argentina finishing unbeaten at the top of their pools with 10 points from four games.

Brazil are 8/11 favourites to win the competition for a 10th time and are 4/11 to triumph in their last-eight clash with Chile, who won just one of their four games to finish fourth in Group A.

The teams are meeting for the first time in four years so let’s look at some of the markets in our Brazil v Chile betting tips.

Match Odds

Brazil’s 10-match winning run came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Ecuador in their final group game.

Coach Tite rested several of his first-choice players such as Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison but they are likely to return for the clash in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s been a comfortable ride so far for the Brazilians, who started with 3-0 and 4-0 wins against Venezuela and Peru but needed a goal from Casemiro in the 10th minute of stoppage time to secure a controversial 2-1 victory over Colombia in which Roberto Firmino’s equaliser struck the referee in the build-up.

Brazil are 11/4 to triumph by at least two goals or 6/5 for a win by over 2.5 match goals against a Chile team whose sole victory came against Bolivia, who finished bottom of Group A with no points.

That said, they drew 1-1 with Argentina and Uruguay and another share of the spoils is priced at 18/5 and the same scoreline is 15/2.

All four of their matches produced two goals or fewer, so Brazil can be backed at 2/1 to win by that method while both teams to score is 6/5.

Talking Tactics

Tite deployed a 4-3-3 in the first match against Venezuela but went with a 4-4-2 in the two wins against Peru and Colombia, only to change the formation to a 4-2-3-1 in the draw with Ecuador.

The Brazil coach is likely to play a 4-4-2 against Chile with Neymar and Jesus leading the line, Richarlison and Everton Ribeiro on the flanks, with Fred and Casemiro in the middle.

Thiago Silva and Marquinhos were at centre-back in the Ecuador game, with Alex Sandro and Danilo operating at full-back.

Martin Lasarte played a 4-3-3 in his first defeat as Chile coach during which Blackburn attacker Ben Brereton featured to the left of main striker Eduardo Vargas.

Goalscorer Odds

Neymar has scored twice at this year’s Copa America and is the 14/5 favourite to get the ball rolling or 21/20 just to find the back of the net.

Jesus scored twice in the last meeting between the nations, a 3-0 World Cup qualifying win in 2017, and is 4/1 to break the deadlock, 17/10 to score or 10/1 to bag a brace.

Richarlison and Firmino, who have a goal apiece, are 10/1 in the anytime goalscorer market in the Brazil v Chile betting tips.

Vargas is Chile’s top scorer at Copa America and is available at 10/1 to score the game’s first goal or 7/2 to breach Brazil’s defence.
