Brentford v Liverpool betting tips and odds

Brentford’s fans have had this match in their diaries since the fixture list was released as they face their sternest test since being promoted to the Premier League.

Both teams cruised through Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third-round ties fielding weakened teams so their first-choice players will be rested for the game at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Reds are understandably 1/2 favourites to pick up three points in west London but let’s examine some of the markets and odds in our Brentford v Liverpool betting tips.

Match Odds

Marcus Forss scored four goals in a 7-0 thrashing of the Football League’s basement club Oldham this week which saw Thomas Frank make 11 changes, but the Finnish striker is unlikely to be in the starting line-up for the Bees, who are 6/1 to spring a surprise on Saturday.

Brentford have lost just one of their five games and beat Arsenal in the first match of the season, but they won’t get any favours from the joint leaders, who have conceded just once in their six domestic games this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Norwich 3-0 for the second time in Tuesday’s League Cup tie during which forgotten man Divock Origi scored in between a Takumi Minamino double and they can be backed at 6/4 to win to nil as one of our Brentford v Liverpool betting tips.

Liverpool have won four of their six Premier League and Cup games by a 3-0 scoreline and that outcome is available at 9/1, but the hosts have only conceded four times this season, so a heavy beating appears unlikely.

All five of Brentford’s matches have produced two or fewer match goals, so we go 29/10 on the Merseysiders winning either 1-0 or 2-0, while a win and under 3.5 goals is 13/10.

They have also been leading 1-0 at the break in four of their five matches which is 5/2, while Liverpool HT/Liverpool FT is 13/10.

Talking Tactics

Klopp is likely to stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation, but Thiago Alcantara has joined Harvey Elliott on the sidelines with a calf injury which means he will miss Saturday’s game. Trent Alexander-Arnold (illness) and Andy Robertson (rested) are likely to return.

Roberto Firmino has missed the last three matches with a hamstring injury but has returned to parts of training, although he is unlikely to feature this weekend.

Brentford boss Frank will stick with his 3-5-2 system, but midfielder Shandon Baptiste is suspended following his second-half dismissal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Wolves.

Goalscorer Odds

Liverpool’s goalscoring triumvirate of Mo Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane are likely to spearhead the attack and are 3/1, 7/2 and 4/1 to break the deadlock or evens, 5/4 and 6/4 to get on the scoresheet.

Jordan Henderson scored against AC Milan in the Champions League and went close against Palace, so he looks an interesting option at 6/1 in the anytime market.

Ivan Toney is the 6/1 favourite to score first from the Brentford contingent having netted twice in his last two games, while his strike partner Bryan Mbeumo is 11/1 or 7/2 in the two markets.

Should Frank want to give Forss a chance, the Finn can be backed at 14/5 to score in the last of our Brentford v Liverpool betting tips.
