Sheffield Wednesday favourites to sign Jordan Rhodes today

Sheffield Wednesday are the Evens favourites to sign Middlesbrough’s out-of-favour striker Jordan Rhodes.

The Owls sit sixth in the Championship, but the addition of Rhodes would really enhance their promotion chances.

The Scottish striker has barely featured for Boro this season, making just six Premier League appearances.

And the recent signing of Rudy Gestede pushed the former Blackburn ace further down the pecking order at the Riverside.

But his Championship pedigree is a match for anybody, with Rhodes blasting in 83 goals during a three-and-a-half year spell with Blackburn.

Aston Villa had been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old, but with Steve Bruce’s side now seemingly set on acquiring Scott Hogan from Brentford, it’s unlikely they’ll now pursue Rhodes.

The bookies make Rhodes 7/1 to join Villa, leaving the door open for Wednesday.

Premier League duo Sunderland and Hull are each 8/1.

Valued at £8.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, the Yorkshire outfit would likely be required to pay at least £10m, with Rhodes’ Boro contract running until 2020.

And comments from Middlesbrough suggest they will only sell for the right price. Of course, that could all change as the 23:00 deadline approaches.

But if they do take the plunge, their hopes of promotion would surely be given a significant boost.

Carlos Calvahal’s men will continue their promotion push tonight, when they head to Bristol City, and are 6/4 for victory at Ashton Gate.
