Chelsea v Aston Villa betting tips and odds

Chelsea hope to cement their status as Manchester City’s main title challengers this season with victory against Aston Villa in Saturday’s tea-time kick-off.

In their last outing before the international break, the Blues drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield despite playing the whole of the second half with 10 men after Reece James was sent off for handling on the line.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are 2/7 to win on Saturday as we look at the markets and odds to help with our Chelsea v Aston Villa betting tips.

Match Odds

Chelsea face Villa for the first of two meetings in 12 days with a Carabao Cup third-round tie taking place later this month.

On paper, this looks like a simple home win but Villa took four points off them last season and but for Leicester’s collapse against Tottenham on the final day, Chelsea would have finished outside the top four after a 2-1 defeat in the West Midlands.

Three of the last four encounters have finished 2-1 one way or another and the west Londoners are 23/10 to win and concede or 8/1 to win by that scoreline once again.

Chelsea recruited well during the transfer window and signed Saul Niguez on loan from Atletico Madrid on deadline day but they surprisingly sold centre-back Kurt Zouma to West Ham despite failing to land his replacement Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Villa spent wisely with the money they made on selling Jack Grealish to Manchester City for a British record £100million, with Danny Ings and Leon Bailey joining the club.

They have taken just four points from games against Watford, Newcastle and Brentford, though, and they will be missing Argentina duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia, so Chelsea to win by at least two goals looks interesting at 17/20 while a one-goal margin of victory is priced at 13/5.

Both teams to score occurred in the last four meetings between these teams and that option is available at 6/5 as one of our Chelsea v Aston Villa betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Much depends on the fitness of players returning from international duty, especially Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku who will undergo a scan on a thigh injury he picked up in Belgium’s 3-0 victory against Czech Republic before returning to Cobham.

N’Golo Kante withdrew from the France squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers with an ankle injury and it remains to be seen whether the midfielder is available, although the arrival of Niguez means they are strong in that department.

Goalkeeper Martinez and winger Buendia are unavailable for Villa so Jed Steer and Bailey could come into the equation.

Goalscorer Odds

Lukaku scored three goals in two World Cup qualifiers and is 23/10 to break the deadlock but until we know more about his thigh issue, it may be best to swerve the Belgium striker.

Timo Werner has yet to score this season but he was on target against Liechtenstein and Armenia, so we go 10/3 on the Germany forward breaking the deadlock and 23/20 to find the net.

Kai Havertz missed Germany’s 6-0 rout of Armenia with a cold but returned to training with his national team-mates and is 6/4 to score at the weekend.

Ings can be backed at 10/1 to score the game’s opening goal, with Ollie Watkins available at 9/2 while Anwar El Ghazi, who struck home and away against Chelsea last season, is 11/2 to repeat the trick in Saturday’s Chelsea v Aston Villa betting tips.
