Brazil v Ecuador betting tips: Hosts can afford to take it easy

| 20.06.2021

Brazil have already won their Copa America group and could be vulnerable as we look at potential Brazil v Ecuador betting tips for Sunday night’s match.

Three wins from three have seen the tournament hosts ease through with no fuss and they have the chance to finish with a perfect record in Group B.

Ecuador have failed to win any of their first three games but are still given little hope by the bookmakers, having been priced up at 17/2 underdogs in the Brazil v Ecuador odds.

Match Odds

Brazil began the tournament as clear favourites in the Copa America winner odds and have done nothing to suggest they will not reward their backers on home soil.

Tite’s team could drop their guard given they are certain to go through as group winners but are still 4/11 favourites to make it 12 points from 12.

They have won 10 matches in a row and kept clean sheets in eight of those, including a 2-0 victory over Ecuador in World Cup qualifying earlier this month, so a home win to nil will be popular at 11/10 in Brazil v Ecuador betting tips.

Their defence was finally breached last time out as they went behind to Colombia in only the 10th minute.

Brazil’s pressure paid off in the 78th minute when Roberto Firmino equalised in controversial circumstances as the referee allowed the game to continue after the ball struck him.

Ecuador’s lengthy protests resulted in 10 minutes of stoppage time and Casemiro headed in from a corner in the 10th of those to rub further salt in Colombia’s wounds.

The way that Brazil kept going right until the end does not bode well for the chances of Ecuador, who are 15/4 to earn a point and 11/5 to avoid defeat.

Brazil have scored nine goals in their three games while Ecuador’s last two matches, against Venezuela and Peru, both ended 2-2 so an open game could be in store.

Over 3.5 goals can be backed at 9/5 while a home win and both teams to score is 11/5.

Talking Tactics

Brazil could be forgiven for a drop in intensity ahead of the quarter-finals but they are still likely to dominate possession, having had 70 per cent of the ball against a stronger team in Colombia.

Ecuador have failed to score in their last five matches against Brazil and are hardly likely to throw caution to the wind but may eventually have no choice, depending what happens between Venezuela and Peru who are playing at the same time.

Goalscorer Odds

Ecuador striker Ayrton Preciado is in good form, having scored in the last two games, and looks their best hope of ending their barren run in front of goal in this fixture.

He is 5/1 to add to his tally here and 14/1 to open the scoring, as he did against Venezuela.

Neymar is the obvious favourite in the first goalscorer odds at 14/5 but could be rested ahead of the knockout stage.

With that in mind, it may make more sense to back Gabriel Jesus or Richarlison in the Brazil v Ecuador betting tips, with the Premier League duo both available at 9/2 to break the deadlock.
