Denmark v Belgium betting tips: Haunted Danes have tough mission

Denmark’s hopes of a successful Euro 2020 campaign were left in tatters on Saturday when their star player Christian Eriksen shockingly suffered a cardiac arrest during the game against Finland.

Strangely, the game continued later in the evening from the point when the Inter Milan midfielder collapsed and the Danes understandably went on to lose 1-0 in Copenhagen.

Belgium are now 11/2 second favourites with England to win Euro 2020 after they got their campaign off to an impressive start with a 3-0 victory against 2018 World Cup hosts Russia.

The Danes do not appear to be in the mood for another game so soon after the Eriksen incident but let’s look at some of the markets in our Denmark v Belgium betting tips.

Match Odds

Belgium are 21/20 to beat a Denmark team shorn of their best player and one they twice overcame by two-goal margins in the Nations League in November.

The Red Devils won 2-0 in Copenhagen and 4-2 in the return, so we make Roberto Martinez’s side 24/5 to win by two goals once more or 29/10 to overcome a -1 handicap and pick up three points.

Belgium were leading at half-time and full-time in Denmark and that option can be backed at 23/10 while they are 11/2 to win both halves as they did in the autumn.

Their home game was 1-1 at the break, so we go 7/2 on Draw HT/Belgium FT or both teams to score in the first half is 9/2, with 1-1 after 45 minutes priced at 15/2.

Denmark had lost just one of their last 12 matches going into the Finland game but Eriksen’s loss means they will have to produce the performance of a lifetime to beat the world’s top-ranked team, with a draw priced at 11/5.

Talking Tactics

Martinez utilised a 3-4-2-1 for the win against Russia during which Yannick Carrasco and Dries Mertens supported lone striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored twice.

Unfortunately, defender Thomas Castagne is out of the tournament after sustaining a double fracture to his eye socket and Jan Vertonghen also went off 15 minutes from time with an ankle injury.

Eden Hazard looked lively coming on as a second-half substitute and it remains to be seen whether Kevin De Bruyne will be in the match-day squad after he suffered a facial injury in the Champions League final which required minor surgery.

Denmark were dominating Finland when near tragedy struck but coach Kasper Hjulmand is expected to stick with a 4-3-3 formation so that could mean Mathias Jensen coming into the starting line-up.

Goalscorer Odds

Lukaku is now the 9/4 favourite to win the Golden Boot after his two-goal salvo helped secure victory in Belgium’s opening Group B match and he also scored a double against Denmark seven months ago.

The Inter Milan striker is 3/1 to open the scoring as he did against Russia and 5/4 to find the net at any time.

Thomas Meunier replaced Castagne and scored Belgium’s second goal soon after and the Borussia Dortmund right-back is 7/1 to bag another while attacking duo Carrasco and Mertens are 4/1 and 7/2 to get on the scoresheet.

Denmark striker Jonas Wind is the 6/1 favourite to break the deadlock and 3/1 just to score.
