England v Scotland betting tips: Three Lions ready to roar at Wembley
England and Scotland meet for the first time in four years and Gareth Southgate’s side are the 1/3 hot favourites to win this Group D clash and book their place in the knockout stage.
The Three Lions started their campaign with a 1-0 victory over 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia but a double from Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick, his second a goal of the tournament contender, consigned Scotland to a 2-0 defeat at Hampden Park.
Steve Clarke’s men are under the cosh to get a result at Wembley so let’s examine some of the markets and odds in our England v Scotland betting tips.
Match Odds
England last played Scotland at Wembley in a World Cup qualifier five years ago when goals from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill secured a 3-0 win and they are 20/23 to win to nil, 23/20 to win and over 2.5 goals or 13/2 for a win by the same scoreline in 2016.
England have won by three or fewer match goals in five successive games which can be backed at 20/23.
Scotland need a result to keep their last 16 hopes alive and are priced at 15/4 to get a draw as they did in their World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park in 2017.
However, England have won three of the last four meetings with Scotland, who are 10/1 to beat the Auld Enemy for the first time in 22 years.
The 2018 World Cup semi-finalists have won their last six matches, though, conceding just once and were 1-0 up at the break in two of their previous three competitive games.
Scotland were a goal down against the Czechs at the interval so we go 21/10 on England to be a goal up at the break or evens on them to be leading at half-time and full-time.
Talking Tactics
Southgate sprang a surprise in the game against Croatia by playing Kieran Trippier, normally a right-back, on the left flank instead of either Luke Shaw or Ben Chilwell.
Kalvin Phillips was outstanding in the heart of midfield and looks likely to keep his place even if Jordan Henderson is fit while Raheem Sterling silenced his critics by scoring the winner with a man-of-the-match display, according to UEFA if not the England camp who awarded it to the Leeds man.

Harry Maguire has declared himself fit having recovered from an ankle ligament injury, but back-up keeper Dean Henderson has withdrawn from the squad with a hip injury and has been replaced by Aaron Ramsdale, although Jordan Pickford will start in goal.
Scotland sorely missed Kieran Tierney, who was absent for the Czech Republic game with a “niggle”, although he returned to training on Tuesday and is fit.
Goalscorer Odds
Harry Kane had a quiet game against Croatia but is the 9/4 favourite to get the first goal or 3/4 to score any time while the England skipper is available at 6/4 to outscore the opposition, with Sterling 7/2 in this market.
The Manchester City attacker is 21/10 to get on the scoresheet again or 9/2 to open the scoring once more, the same odds as Phil Foden who struck the post against Croatia.
Lyndon Dykes had a couple of decent chances for Scotland against the Czechs and is 9/2 to score and 11/1 to get on the scoresheet while Jack Hendry, who hit the crossbar on Monday, is 20/1 to bag a goal.
