Hipster Tipster: Going back to basics with Bielsa led tips

Published:

After so many weeks of tiki-taka-inspired tips involving over 2.5 goals and handicap wins, I’ve decided to follow the lead of my mortal football enemy Tony Pulis, with a back-to-basics fourfold covering four of the continent’s best leagues this Sunday.

Like Joe Pasquale in his pomp, these tips are not big or clever, but they do promise a return of 12/1 for anyone willing to hold their nose and dive headfirst into the proverbial trough of European football on offer this weekend.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s Marseille among those tipped, read on to see if I really am losing my sanity by going another week without a Zlatan, Messi or Ronaldo in sight.

Sevilla to beat Athletic Bilbao @ 2/1

The Andalusians are fast becoming this season’s Atletico Madrid i.e. a team that isn’t Barca or Real yet is capable of stringing together a couple of results. Unbeaten in six games, they will look to score a third straight win when they visit a Bilbao team with one victory in their last 10.

Torino to beat Atalanta @ 17/20

Never mind Juventus and their inability to win in Europe, Torino are the team taking the continent by storm in the Europa League and look good for a fourth win in five against an Atalanta side that has tasted victory in just one of their previous seven games.

Borussia M gladbach to beat Hoffenheim @ 19/20

Any team that can hold Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich to a draw should be commended and with the home support behind them Gladbach should be fine to extend their unbeaten run at Stadion im Borussia Park to seven games with Hoffenheim winning just one of their last four on the road.

Marseille to beat Lens @ 2/7

Anyone who may be thinking the Bielsa revolution is in danger of collapse should receive a rude awakening when L’OM entertain Lens. The hosts have won four in a row at Stade Velodrome and have little to fear from a side that has tasted defeat in three of their last four.
