England v Rep of Ireland Betting Tips: Another tight match at Wembley?

| 12.11.2020

England and the Republic of Ireland will go head-to-head tonight with both sides searching for a confidence boosting win to take into Sunday’s Nations League matches.

It’s the first fixture between the two countries since 2015 when the pair meandered to a 0-0 draw at the Aviva Stadium to make it a fifth stalemate in as many meetings.

Reckon it’ll end all-square again under the Wembley arch tonight? We’ve previewed the match in our England v Republic of Ireland Betting Tips.

Match Odds

Both managers are expected to name an experimental side for this match, but it’s England who have the better strength in depth. Our traders fancy them to get the job done at a cosy 2/5.

Ireland haven’t won on English soil since 1949, although it’s their more recent away record against all opposition that will have boss Stephen Kenny fretting. The Irish have won just once away from home in their last 13 matches dating back to 2017, and that was a narrow 1-0 success in Gibraltar 20 months ago.

They’re 15/2 to make amends with victory in London, with 16/5 about a sixth successive draw between the two nations. Ireland are also available at a more tempting 11/5 on the Double Chance.

One thing we do know is that the visitors aren’t much fond of scoring, and with England likely to rest key players, we’re going 19/20 about Under 2.5 Goals in the match

Talking Tactics

Gareth Southgate looks set to offer chances to a number of fringe players this evening, with Burnley stopper Nick Pope one such beneficiary in place of Jordan Pickford.

Further forward, Conor Coady is expected to win his fourth cap in the centre of defence alongside Michael Keane and Harry Maguire, who is suspended for Sunday’s clash with Belgium. Reece James, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Dominic Calvert-Lewin could also be in line for starts.

Ireland, on the other hand, don’t have the same strength in-depth and look particularly light going forward. Adam Idah appears likely to lead the line following the respective withdrawals of Callum Robinson and Aaron Connolly.

He could be joined by Ronan Curtis and James McClean, while another novice in Jayson Molumby is poised to start in midfield alongside Conor Hourihane and Jeff Hendrick.

Goalscorer Odds

The goals may have dried up a touch in the league for Calvert-Lewin, but he remains England’s most likely chance of scoring this evening, according to our traders. The Everton man is 19/20 to find the net at any point in the match, with 13/5 on offer about him to break the deadlock.

Elsewhere, Villa star Grealish will be hoping to get another chance to prove his worth for the Three Lions, and after hitting five goals in eight matches for his club, we make it a 21/10 chance he opens his account for England.

Only two players in the Ireland squad have scored more than seven goals at international level, and of those, it’s McClean who’s given the best chance of making the net bulge at 6/1. Like his counterpart Grealish, Idah is still looking for his first international goal, and we go 4/1 he finds it up against England’s fragile defence.
