Malta v England: Three Lions to march towards Russia

England could take another step towards World Cup qualification in their first qualifier of the 2017-18 campaign on Friday night.

They travel to Malta as Group F leaders on 14 points. Malta haven’t picked up a single point from six games.

It’s not surprising that our traders can’t see beyond an away win here. England are 1/28 favourites. The draw is 18/1 and Malta huge outsiders for the win at 90/1.

England start life without Wayne Rooney in this game. Gareth Southgate still has plenty of attacking talent to choose from. And Harry Kane is set to get the nod up front.

The Tottenham Hotspur ace hasn’t scored in the league yet this season. But he has three goals in his last two international outings. There’s value in Kane as First Goalscorer at 11/5.

Harry Maguire and Nathaniel Chalobah will be hoping to make their international debuts too. They earned their call ups after starting well for Leicester City and Watford respectively.

Malta’s biggest threat is likely to be captain Michael Mifsud. The veteran has scored 40 international goals. He’s 4/1 to add to his tally as an Anytime Goalscorer.

England surely have too much quality to anything other than win here. But they could start slowly. Draw/England is 13/4 in the Half Time / Full Time market.

Southgate’s side face Slovakia at home after this one. That game should be a much sterner test.
