Preview, odds and Leipzig v Rangers betting tips

Rangers hope to put a disappointing weekend behind them by reaching the Europa League final where they could meet West Ham in a ‘Battle of Britain’.

Gers’ hopes of retaining their Scottish Premiership title effectively ended in a 1-1 draw with Celtic in the final Old Firm game of the season as they turn their attention to overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first leg of their semi-final against RB Leipzig.

The Light Blues are 27/10 to win at Ibrox, which has proved to be a fortress in the Europa League this season, so let’s take a look at the markets and odds in our Rangers v Leipzig betting tips.

Rangers v RB Leipzig form

The Germans have two chances to reach next season’s Champions League but there are four teams hoping to grab two of the spots in the Bundesliga, so Domenico Tedesco’s side cannot afford to relax in either the German top flight or Europa League, a competition they are 5/6 favourites to win.

Leipzig are 19/20 favourites to win inside 90 minutes but they will be mindful that Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund lost 6-4 on aggregate to Rangers in the knockout round play-offs.

The Scottish champions won 4-2 in Germany and drew 2-2 in the return leg, so we go 5/2 on a draw and 16/5 on that outcome with both teams scoring.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have won five and drawn one of their seven home games in the Europa League, four of which they won without conceding, an outcome which can be backed at 6/1 or it’s 5/1 they win with both teams scoring.

Although they have lost just once at Ibrox in the SPL this season, the Scottish Premiership is not the same standard as the Bundesliga where Leipzig have won just six of their 15 away games in the current campaign.

However, they beat a strong Manchester City team in the final group game of the Champions League and drew 2-2 with PSG having gone close to winning in Paris two weeks earlier only to go down 3-2 thanks to two Lionel Messi goals.

Leipzig won 3-1 and 2-0 respectively at Real Sociedad and Atalanta in the Europa League knockout stage, so we go 27/20 on the visitors winning with at least two match goals or 15/8 with three while it’s 12/5 on them winning by at least two goals or 9/2 on a two-goal margin of victory for a third successive away game in this competition.

The visitors are 5/2 to win and concede in Thursday’s Rangers v Leipzig betting tips, bearing in mind Gers have only once failed to score at home in this season’s competition – a 2-0 defeat by Lyon.

Rangers v RB Leipzig head to head

Gers were just five minutes away from earning a creditable goalless draw in the first meeting between the clubs in Germany despite the absence of Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Aaron Ramsey but Angelino’s volley gave the Bundesliga side a 1-0 advantage heading to Glasgow.

Leipzig dominated possession, although Allan McGregor did not have a real save to make until Christopher Nkunku tested him after the break.

After the game Van Bronckhorst claimed his side can use the atmosphere generated by their fans to overcome a first-leg deficit as they did against Braga in the quarter-finals.

The Dutchman said: “We have to give everything and I’m sure our game at Ibrox will give us a lot of energy to overcome Leipzig. They are a quality team as you saw but we want to reach the final. We have to prepare well as always and give everything to reach Seville.”

Another level opening 45 minutes is 11/10 while Draw HT/Leipzig FT is 15/4 but extra time will be required if the hosts win by a goal.

Gers are 22/1 to win during the extra 30 minutes with Leipzig 16/1, the same price as both teams to win on penalties.

Rangers v RB Leipzig team news

With doubts surrounding the fitness of both Morelos and Roofe, Van Bronckhorst must decide whether to stick with Joe Aribo in the false nine role as he did at Parkhead or go with Ryan Kent and Scott Wright as he did in Germany.

Fashion Sakala scored the equaliser against Celtic and hit the post in the closing stages so the Zambian striker is an option to start up front.

Ramsey has been out with a hamstring problem and Van Bronckhorst revealed he will see how training goes before making a decision about the availability of the on-loan midfielder and Roofe (knee).

Leipzig, who slipped to fifth place in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach on Monday night, welcome back Willi Orban, Mohamed Simakan and Kevin Kampl from suspension and all three are likely to start.

Goalscorer odds

It’s no surprise to see Leipzig players dominating the goalscorer betting, with Nkunku and Andre Silva both 7/2 to break the deadlock.

Nkunku is the Bundesliga’s fifth highest scorer with 17 goals this season but Silva is the slight favourite at 7/5 to net at any time.

Former Manchester City left-back Angelino scored his third goal of 2022 in the first leg and is 5/1 to repeat the trick or 14/1 to get the ball rolling in our Rangers v Leipzig betting tips.

For Rangers, captain James Tavernier is the competition’s joint top scorer with six goals and the roving right-back is 12/1 to bag the opening goal of the game and 9/2 in the anytime market.

Aribo and Sakala are 11/1 and 11/2 to net the opener respectively or 4/1 and 21/10 to breach Leipzig’s defence.
