Man Utd v Arsenal betting tips: Carrick gets another chance
Preview and odds for Thursday’s match
Caretaker manager Michael Carrick remains in charge of the hosts for now as we study the odds to pick out some Man Utd v Arsenal betting tips.
There is already much talk about how United will do under Ralf Rangnick but his work permit is still being finalised so Carrick takes charge of his third match having already won at Villarreal and drawn at Chelsea.
This is another tough test for the inexperienced coach, though, with Arsenal having won seven and lost just one of their last 10 league games.
Arsenal lost their first three matches of the season but the contrasting fortunes of both teams recently means the Gunners head to Old Trafford with a five-point advantage.
This is Carrick’s first home match in charge and he will be keen to improve a record of just two wins from six home games in the Premier League this season.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all kept clean sheets and won here this season and Arsenal are 6/1 to join that list with a win to nil.
Five of Arsenal’s wins this season have been to nil and three of those have been 1-0, with a repeat of that scoreline priced at 11/1.
Carrick made the brave decision to start with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench at Chelsea but the Old Trafford faithful will demand a more attacking approach here.
The former midfielder drew an industrious showing from United and they were able to stymie Chelsea’s usual possession supply lines at the base of their midfield.
If he adopts a similar plan here then another cagey contest could be in store.
United have failed to beat Arsenal in the league in the last three seasons although there have been three draws in that time, including two at Old Trafford, and the draw on Thursday is tempting at 5/2.
The match ended 0-0 in the most recent meeting at the Emirates Stadium in January while Arsenal won 1-0 on their last trip to Old Trafford in November 2020 thanks to a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty.
Arsenal will be keen to exploit United’s recent defensive problems and Aubameyang has scored the last goal of the match on the last two trips to Old Trafford, a trend which is 5/1 to continue.
