Newcastle v Leeds betting tips and odds

Newcastle and Leeds clash at St James’ Park on Friday night still seeking their first win of the Premier League season.

The Magpies succumbed to their third defeat in four games on Saturday when a Cristiano Ronaldo double helped give Manchester United a 4-1 victory and are 2/1 underdogs to pick up three points here.

Both teams are in the bottom four so the match is a good opportunity to pull away from the relegation zone as we look at the markets and odds in our Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

Match Odds

Leeds hope to bounce back from Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool which was marred by an horrific injury to Reds teenager Harvey Elliott.

Substitute Pascal Struijk was shown a straight red card for the incident after a VAR review and his appeal has been rejected so the defender will serve a three-match ban.

The visitors defeated Newcastle home and away last season and are 5/4 to win once again while a victory and goals at both ends – as it was in both games – is available at 27/10.

Additionally, both teams scored in the second half last season, an option which can be backed at 6/4, and the hosts are 23/20 to bag the opening goal as they did in both home games against West Ham and Southampton.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have had a tough start to the season, facing Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton in their opening four games, so they can perhaps be forgiven for taking just two points, although they were outplayed by Burnley in a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

With both sides struggling, a draw and both teams to score is available at 3/1 as one of our Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Bielsa once again went with a 4-1-4-1 in Sunday’s game at Elland Road but centre-back Diego Llorente went off with an injury in the first half and the man that replaced him was sent off after the break, so Leeds have defensive problems ahead of the trip to Tyneside.

Dan James made his debut against the Reds, replacing Jack Harrison midway through the second half, but he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock is nursing a knock from the game at Old Trafford and will be assessed, as will Ciaran Clark and Javier Manquillo.

Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser missed Saturday’s 4-1 loss but Steve Bruce is close to welcoming back Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett.

Goalscorer Odds

Wilson is the 10/3 favourite to to break the deadlock but with doubts surrounding his availability, that honour falls to Leeds striker Patrick Bamford at 4/1 while Raphinha is 7/1 or 5/2 to score.

Harrison struck twice in the Carabao Cup win against Crewe but has yet to find the net in the Premier League so we go 14/5 on the winger scoring, the same price as James, while Stuart Dallas is 4/1.

Magpies duo Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton are 6/1 and 11/5 in both markets, with Miguel Almiron 10/1 and 7/2 as the last of our Newcastle v Leeds betting tips.
