Our Premier League Team of the Season

Published:

What a season it has been in the Premier League sofar! Liverpool are on course for their first title in thirty years, SheffieldUnited are in the race for Europe and the battle to beat the drop is as intenseas ever.

We’ve put ourmanager’s cap on to pick our team of the season. However, there is one majorselection headache – we’re only picking one player per club!

Here we go…

NickPope (Burnley)

The English stopperhas the most clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season (11).

The Clarets havesneaked into the top half of the table and are only four points off the topsix. That is largely down to their impressive defensive record and theconsistency of Pope between the sticks.

TrentAlexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

One of the hottestprospects in world football right now and he’s on course to win the title withLiverpool.

His energy anddelivery from the right-back means he slots into this team with relative ease. The standout player in his position.

HarryMaguire (Manchester United)

The centre back hasbeen a vital asset at Old Trafford this season following his summer move andhas played a key role in helping Manchester United’s push for a top four place.

An honourable mentionmust go to Caglar Soyuncu who misses out to another Leicester team mate.

ConorCoady (Wolves)

He has beeninfluential at the heart of defence for a Wolves side who have proven they canchallenge the top teams in the league and balance European commitments.

The Wolves skipper hasbeen fantastic all season and his displays may well have caught the eye ofEngland boss, Gareth Southgate.

PatrickVan Aanholt (Crystal Palace)

This was a tricky one.Andy Robertson has been the stand out performer at left-back but misses out toAlexander-Arnold.

Van Aanholt has been athreat at both ends of the pitch for Roy Hodgson this season and has proven tobe one of the most valuable defenders in the league in his position.

JackGrealish (Aston Villa)

The stand-outperformer for an Aston Villa team struggling to avoid relegation.

His guile, flair andtenacity has made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous players andGrealish has led his side by example with seven goals and six assists. JamesMaddison misses out.

JohnLundstram (Sheffield United)

The Blades have beenone of the surprise packages of the season. Many predicted Sheffield United tobe relegated but they have proven the doubters wrong under Chris Wilder.

A number of Unitedplayers could have made this team but it’s Lundstram who nicks it with hisbox-to-box approach and handy ability to score a goal.

Kevinde Bruyne (Manchester City)

A joy to watch! Firstname on the teamsheet. The Belgian was sorely missed by Manchester City lastseason and he’s shown why he is one of the best players in the world with themost assists in the Premier League this season (16).

Richarlison(Everton)

The Brazilian hasnotched up ten goals and five assists for the Toffees and has struck up aformidable partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack. He has maturedthis season at Goodison Park and slots in on the left flank in our team of theseason, ahead of Todd Cantwell.

JamieVardy (Leicester City)

England’s loss hasbeen Leicester’s gain. Since retiring from international duties, Vardy has beenable to concentrate on club football this season and he’s on course for theGolden Boot with 19 goals.

Pierre-EmerickAubameyang (Arsenal)

A formidable strikerwith a proven record. The striker has fired 20 goals in all competitions with17 of those coming in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old hasbeen a consistent performer in what has been a topsy-turvy season for theGunners. Honrouable mentions to Danny Ings and Calvert-Lewin, who both justmiss out.

So that’s it! We havepicked our Premier League Team of the Season so far! Who makes it into your XI?
