Promoted Forest second most popular club to win Premier League title

Premier League picks: Forest popular with punters

Nottingham Forest are the second most popular pick with Ladbrokes punters to win the Premier League.

Steve Cooper’s men have been the subject of 15.5% of all bets placed on the league winner up to this point – meaning Forest are behind only Manchester United (16.9%) in the popularity charts – despite being 1000/1 rank outsiders.

Elsewhere, champions Manchester City, 8/13 favourites in the Premier League title odds, are eighth in the table as things stand, with Tottenham and Arsenal making up the top four, while Brentford are the least-backed side in the division to win the title.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “In a bizarre twist which has left our traders scratching their heads, newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have been the subject of a flurry of bets to go all the way and win the Premier League… in fact as things stand they’re three times as popular as Manchester City in the popularity charts.”

Forest have signed Huddersfield duo Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo, and have been strongly linked with former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, who is also wanted by West Ham.

Lingard is said to be holding out for £180,000 a week and you can vote on whether he’s worth that in our poll.

Three of Forest’s key players from their promotion-winning squad are no longer at the club, with goalkeeper Brice Samba joining Lens on a five-year contract and Djed Spence returning to parent club Middlesbrough although he subsequently signed for Tottenham for around £20million. James Garner also went back to Manchester United after a successful loan spell at the City Ground.

Those losses prompted Cooper to make several new signings ahead of the new season, including Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson on a season-long loan and Wayne Hennessey from Burnley as back-up.

Forest also signed 24-year-old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored 15 goals for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga last season, while right-back Neco Williams has joined from Liverpool, so the newcomers are starting to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League.

Liverpool finished a point behind Manchester City in second place last season and are 11/4 in the Premier League title odds, but are the fifth most popular team with punters to win the Premier League, with Chelsea – under new ownership – sixth.
