Premier League top four betting tips: Reds in driving seat

| 17.05.2021

The race for the two remaining Champions League places almost looked over on Sunday but Liverpool keeper Alisson had other ideas.

The Brazilian’s stoppage-time header gave the Reds a 2-1 win at West Brom and they are now the 1/4 favourites in the top four betting odds to bag a place at Europe’s top table next season.

Although Tottenham and West Ham could technically overhaul Chelsea, we’re looking at the three main contenders in our Premier League top four betting tips.

With seconds remaining, the Reds were likely to be fighting it out with Spurs and West Ham for the Europa League places but as it stands they are now the favourites to finish in the top four despite being fifth in the table.

Liverpool were heading for a second successive 1-1 draw against West Brom only for Alisson to become the sixth goalkeeper to score in the Premier League when he headed in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

The Reds travel to Burnley on Wednesday and conclude their season at home to Crystal Palace but their fate remains in their own hands because Champions League rivals Leicester and Chelsea are due to meet on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are three points adrift of Leicester and one behind the Blues, so with one or both teams bound to drop points on Tuesday night the Merseysiders are in the driving seat.

Liverpool lost 1-0 at home to Burnley earlier in the season but the Clarets were ripped to shreds by Leeds at the weekend.

Palace twice fought back from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 on Sunday but they won’t relish a trip to Anfield having lost 7-0 to the Reds at Selhurst Park.

The Blues are slightly ahead of Leicester at 4/9 but they must improve on their two performances against the Foxes this season if they are to finish in the top four.

Chelsea lost 2-0 at the King Power in the Premier League and on Saturday Youri Tielemans’ spectacular strike gave Leicester a first FA Cup final triumph at the fifth time of asking.

Thomas Tuchel’s men are two points adrift of Leicester so they are almost certain to miss out on the top four if they lose at Stamford Bridge, although they will get a second bite at the cherry by defeating Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Should they beat Leicester, only Aston Villa stand in their way of another season at Europe’s top table.

City have no time to celebrate their Wembley triumph with two tough games this week concluding their Premier League season.

Leicester may be third in the table but they are regarded as the outsiders at 8/13 to finish outside the top four, just as they did on the final day of last season when they lost to Manchester United, who took their place as a consequence.

Can Leicester beat Chelsea for a third time this season and seal a place in the Champions League? Key defender Jonny Evans is out of the game so their task has been made that much harder.

Blues boss Tuchel felt Chelsea deserved to win the FA Cup final and they were unlucky Ben Chilwell’s late equaliser was ruled out for offside by VAR.

A draw would be a good result for Leicester but they still have to face Tottenham, who still have their sights set on the Europa League.
