Cut-price Lavezzi deal could put Liverpool on track for top four

Alongside rampant goal-scoring and constant negative press, one thing that Luis Suarez brought to Liverpool was an insatiable hunger for success on the pitch.
His tenacious, unflinching approach might have strayed over the line far too regularly, but undoubtedly roused his teammates and unsettled opponents.
Alexis Sanchez is doing a similar job, minus the biting, at Arsenal, pressing defenders so mercilessly they often leave the field as 2D shapes.
In Suarez’s absence, Liverpool have lacked some of that aggression in their attack, despite the talent it contains.
As a result their odds to claim a top-four spot this term have slipped out to 11/2, but a couple of smart pieces of work in the January transfer window could quickly set the Reds straight.
One transfer that Brendan Rodgers should be desperate to push through is the rumoured £8m move for Ezequiel Lavezzi the Reds are reportedly considering.
The Argentine has struggled for regular playing time at Paris St-Germain, playing the full 90 minutes just four times in Ligue 1 since the start of last season, but his talent has always been obvious when facing English sides.
In contrast to his teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, many of Lavezzi’s best days have come against Premier League sides.
In four games against Chelsea for Napoli and PSG, the Argentine has bagged three goals, while he also notched against Liverpool in the Europa League in 2010.
Lavezzi’s hard-working style is similar to that of fellow south Americans Carlos Tevez, Suarez and Sanchez, and it is perhaps this, more than his goal-scoring, that would benefit the Reds most.
The 29-year-old is also an accomplished dribbler, and can play in almost any attacking position. At £8m, Liverpool would be crazy to ignore Lavezzi in January.
