Defeat against Everton could leave us with one more casualty of 2016

This is supposed to be the festive period, but we’ve already lost two Premier League managers in December. And while 2017 is just two nights away, we wouldn’t be backing against a third going before Big Ben’s bell chimes at midnight tomorrow.

Hull face Everton this evening at the KCOM Stadium, with the home side looking to end a seven-game run in the league without a victory.

In fact, of those possible 21 points, the Tigers have picked up just two.

As a result of that horrendous streak, we’re offering odds of just 5/1 for Phelan to be dismissed before the turn of the year.

And while the winter transfer window can’t come soon enough for Mike Phelan, there’s every chance he won’t be in charge of the Humberside outfit when it opens.

Defeat against the Toffees, combined with a couple of wins from Hull’s fellow relegation strugglers could see Phelan’s men some seven points off the pace.

That would leave the former Man United assistant with it all to do – although the Tigers’ board could turn their attentions elsewhere.

There are certainly a number of suitable replacements should Hull part ways with Phelan. For starters, Alan Pardew – who was recently sacked by Crystal Palace, boasts plenty of experience in relegation scraps, while the likes of Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp are also available.

With both Pardew and Bob Bradley being dismissed in the last week or so, Phelan is now the clear 5/4 favourite in the Sack Race.

But we reckon there could certainly be some value in the 5/1 on offer for the 54-year-old to be sacked before the year is out.
