Here’s what West Ham need to do in the January window

West Ham United transfer news

January is a pivotal moment of the season for most teams. The January transfer window opens and that gives sides the opportunity to improve.

For some outfits, it can mean the difference between a great escape or European football.

The Ladbrokes News team are profiling all 20 Premier League clubs.

Here it’s West Ham United’s turn to go under the microscope…

What they need

Before David Moyes took over, you’d have said: “A Lot” – but now, maybe not so much. The Scot has got the Hammers looking solid.

However, there’s still plenty of room for improvement all over. A full-back to cover the flanks, a midfielder, and a forward would do nicely.

Who they’re targeting?

There’s nothing in the pipeline yet, but surely Moyes will make use of his extensive contacts.

Bacary Sagna is currently a free agent and would certainly do a decent job covering the full-back areas.

Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma is currently eyeing up an exit from his Stoke City loan and would be a super addition at centre-half.

Daniel Sturridge can’t get a game at Liverpool and may have to drop down a club level to get a regular start. If the Hammers are to spend money, Sturridge would be worth a significant outlay.

Who they might lose?

Diafra Sakho is the only current West Ham player who may leave the club. Despite his recent goal, the Frenchman wants out after a torrid two seasons in London.

Final Thought

Moyes has a reasonably solid squad at his disposal and won’t need to add a huge amount of quality.

A handful of savvy deals on loan or Bosman contracts would do the trick nicely.
