Modric, Cahill and Meireles set for deadline transfers

Sought after trio Luka Modric, Gary Cahill and Raul Meireles have received the most coverage in the back pages of the tabloids this week, but only time will tell if they are to move before the deadline.

After a slow last couple of weeks in the transfer market, Arsenal’s lacklustre display against Manchester United on Sunday has sparked a transfer frenzy heading into the final hours of the window.

North Londoners Arsenal and Tottenham are strongly linked with a host of players and they may end up at loggerheads, which could result in an intriguing transfer battle.

Elsewhere, big spenders Liverpool and Chelsea are set to be in the thick of the action too.

With the imminent signing of German defender Per Mertesacker, it has been reported that Arsenal have ended their interest in Bolton’s Gary Cahill.

The England defender is 9/2 to move to the Gunners’ rivals Tottenham, but he now looks more likely to stay at his current club, which is priced at 4/6.

In other news from the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger is allegedly on the verge of signing left-back Andre Santos and striker Park Chu-young.

Modric has been closely tracked by Chelsea over the past few weeks and the Croatian’s less than impressive display against Manchester City at the weekend suggests he is looking for a move away from White Hart Lane.

Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly bid in excess of £28m for Modric, but it appears that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for over £30m to secure the services of their prized asset. It’s 5/6 for Villas-Boas to get his man, while Modric is the same price to stay put.

After West Ham‘s Scott Parker handed in a transfer request and Harry Redknapp confirmed his interest, it appears they have a ready-made replacement should the Modric deal go through.

Chelsea are also chasing Liverpool’s midfielder Meireles, but have so far failed to arrange a deal using Yossi Benayoun in part exchange.

However, Liverpool may be interested if Daniel Sturridge is thrown in instead and it is 2/1 that Meireles moves to Chelsea, while he is 2/5 to stay at Anfield.
