Top five Premier League 2019/20 goals of the season so far

Published:

This pause in play has allowed us to take stock, but alsoget a little wistful at the season so far. Yes, Liverpool appear to be runningaway with the title – but what about some of the great goals we’ve seen?

We’ve racked our brains and come up with some of the beststrikes we’ve seen in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Ismaila Sarr

WATFORD v Liverpool

Liverpool were cruising to a first Premier League title andtravelled to a Watford side swamped in a relegation battle in February.

At this point the Reds just turn up a win anywhere, don’tthey? Not this time. The Hornets’ summer signing came of age with a man of thematch performance, scoring a brace and assisting skipper Troy Deeney.

But it was Sarr’s  second goal, a mix of pure pace to get awayfrom Virgil van Dijk and nonchalance to chip the ball over arguably theleague’s best goalkeeper in Alisson that makes it even more impressive.

Matty Longstaff

NEWCASTLE UNITED v Man United

Premier League debuts don’t come much sweeter than this. Startingalongside your brother in the heart of the Newcastle midfield againstManchester United is one thing – but scoring the winner for your boyhood clubis the stuff of dreams.

After a quick Toon counterattack, Matty Longstaff arrivedlate on the edge of the box and drove a right footed shot past David De Gea.

The combination of the strike, the moment, and theatmosphere means it takes its rightful place on our list.

Moussa Djenepo

Sheffield United v SOUTHAMPTON

Southampton have had some precocious talents over the years, think Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane. And in Moussa Djenepo, they might haveanother who will light up St. Mary’s Stadium judging by this sublime soloeffort.

The Mali forward picked up the ball on the half turn, 30yards from goal and combined strength with will-power to shrug off OllieNorwood, putting John Egan on the floor before  finishing with aplomb.

Kevin De Bruyne

Newcastle United v MANCHESTER CITY

When class and technique meet a full throttle rip-snorter you often find Kevin De Bruyne. The Man City team simply doesn’t work as well when KdB is out of the side and he showed again why he’s the first name on the City team sheet.

With the score locked at 1-1, the Belgian caressed a highball on his chest, let the ball bounce before unleashing a rippling strike thathit the under side of the crossbar and into the net.

No chance for Newcastle ‘keeper Martin Dubravka. ‘Ave someof that!

Jordan Ayew

CRYSTAL PALACE v West Ham United

It’s been somewhat of a Premier League renaissance forJordan Ayew this season. He’s Palace’s top scorer with eight goals, but theydon’t get much better than this one.

As the game moved into the 90th minute Ayew picked up theball on the right wing and moved inside. With few options in sight, he beatDeclan Rice with a drag back before dancing past two more Hammers defenders.

Suddenly one on one with the keeper he coolly chipped theball over the despairing Roberto and won the game for his side.

Beautiful.
