Transfer Deadline Day things we can’t wait to see

Published:

The clock is ticking ever louder with Transfer Deadline Day just around the corner and Premier League clubs set to break the £800m marker before 11pm on Monday.

The day promises to bring a number of staple occurrences – think Jim White shouting, Harry Redknapp leaning out of his car window etc – but there are still plenty of things we’d love to see.

Here are three of the most random and dramatic scenes from years gone by that we’d love to see again.

Fake club representatives to attempt deal negotiations

Ander Herrera may now be at Manchester United but the former Athletic Bilbao man’s first attempt to join the Old Trafford club ended in farcical circumstances.

Frustrated at their attempts to land a midfielder Red Devils fans were relieved to find that club representatives had arrived in Spain to put the final touches on a last minute deal – only to later be told the so-called reps were actually pranksters!

We’d love to see this again – perhaps with some fake moustache activity and dodgy accents!

Any player to be spotted taking off in a helicopter

Players flying between clubs in choppers might sound like one of Jim White’s damp fantasies but it has happened on numerous occasions.

Former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel got the Sky Sports News in a stupor in 2010 when boarding a helicopter from Merseyside to London.

Speculation was rife that the Dutchman was set to join either West Ham or Tottenham but in the end neither deal materialised.

Will the choppers be put to use this year?

Any player to set up shop in another club’s car park to force a deal

The biggest story of deadline day last year was West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie arriving at QPR against the Baggies’ knowledge in a bizarre attempt to force through a move to Loftus Road.

Premier League rules prevented the player from entering the stadium so the Nigerian just sat firm in his Range Rover as bemused Sky reporters offered us hourly updates on his situation.

“He’s just listening to Capital FM and playing flappy birds at the moment, back to you in the studio,” they may as well have said.

Will we see Winston Reid parked up at the Emirates or Tom Cleverley banging on the door at Villa Park? Let’s hope so!
