Willian one of six on Andre Villas-Boas radar at Tottenham

Tottenham have finally all but accepted the departure of Luka Modric to Real Madrid, with Andre Villas-Boas ready to spend the cash generated by his sale.

Spurs’ playmaker-in-chief for the past four years, finding a replacement for Modric is a priority, and Villas-Boas looks set to raid Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk to do so.

Shakhtar’s Brazilian schemer Willian is believed to be Spurs’ main target, with Villas-Boas reportedly willing to spend a large portion of his £50million transfer kitty on the 24-year-old.

Like Modric, Willian’s preferred position is central midfield, though he can also operate on either flank if necessary, and his versatility appeals to Spurs.

He is just one of a significant number of potential signings however, with Tottenham thought to have enquired about the availability of at least ten players.

Joao Moutinho is the other favoured by Villas-Boas as an essential addition, and in him he will hope to be reunited with a member of his Europa League-winning Porto side.

Moutinho starred for Portugal at this summer’s European championships though, and as such would command a fee of around £20million if moving to White Hart Lane.

Moussa Dembele and Raul Meireles are alternative options meanwhile, and both would likely cost significantly less, but whether they would preference a move across London remains to be seen.

Midfield is not the sole area Villas-Boas is intending to strengthen however, as the Spurs chief looks to add to a threadbare frontline consisting of only Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe.

Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente could join, with that move appearing more likely considering his failure to agree a new deal with the La Liga club.

At the other end of the pitch meanwhile, Villas-Boas is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with 41-year-old goalkeeper Brad Friedel for the number one jersey.

France captain Hugo Lloris is his preferred choice, but Roma’s Maarten Stekelenburg could be brought in for £11million if Spurs fail to reach an agreement with Lyon for Lloris.
