Scotland player ratings v Croatia: How they fared at Hampden Park

Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of a major tournament for the first time ended in a 3-1 defeat by Croatia.
Steve Clarke’s side needed a win to reach the last 16 and Callum McGregor boosted their chances with a well-taken equaliser only for Luka Modric to break the hearts with a superb strike before Ivan Perisic’s deft header ensured Scotland finished bottom of the group.
Here, we give Scotland’s players marks out of 10 for their performances in their final Group D clash at Hampden Park.

David Marshall (7)
No chance with Croatia’s opener. Quick off his line to snuff out a first-half chance and made two good stops after the break. Was then beaten by two quality finishes.
Scott McTominay (6)
Got sucked in by the cross before Nikola Vlasic hit the opener. Otherwise another decent display in the back three.
Grant Hanley (5)
After his best two games for Scotland, injury forced the Norwich defender off just after the half-hour mark.
Kieran Tierney (6)
Showed good drive from the back three again. Could not stop Ivan Perisic heading home Croatia’s third.
Stephen O’Donnell (5)
Out-jumped ahead of the opener and was given a tough time by Perisic. Good ball down the flank sent Scotland on their way to their equaliser but could not often make headway himself.
John McGinn (6)
Delivered some good balls and made his presence felt at times. Could not wrap his foot around the ball from close range in a great second-half chance at 1-1.
Callum McGregor (7)
The Celtic midfielder offered composure on the ball and picked the perfect time to hit his first goal for Scotland, driving home with his weaker foot.
Stuart Armstrong (5)
Great cross almost set up McGinn but attacking play generally did not quite come off. A tough night against Croatia’s polished midfield passing.
Andy Robertson (6)
A bit slow to get out to the cross ahead of the opener. His cross led to Scotland’s equaliser and he forced the game forward when he could.
Che Adams (6)
Just could not get on the end of some inviting first-half crosses. Some good touches and forced a second-half stop.
Lyndon Dykes (6)
Again, won more than his fair share of high balls and laid the ball off well a couple of times but never had a sniff at goal.

Came on for Hanley and was booked before he had touched the ball after mistiming a tackle. A tough task to get up to the speed of the game in his first Euro 2020 appearance but made some good interventions.
Ryan Fraser (5)
Shot well over from a half chance before putting in one good cross.
Kevin Nisbet (4)
Game was gone by the time he was introduced.
Nathan Patterson (4)
Just enough time to show his attacking intent on a couple of occasions and glimpses of his talent.
