Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips and odds

Two new managers are at the helm for the match in south Wales where Sheffield United start as 6/4 favourites.

Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic is no stranger to the Championship, of course, having steered Watford and Fulham to the Premier League, but former MK Dons manager Russell Martin takes charge of a second-tier team for the first time.

Both teams lost on the opening weekend so let’s look at the markets and odds in our Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips.

Match Odds

Sheffield United were beaten 1-0 by Birmingham on Saturday despite having 76% possession and leading the shot count 16-9 at Bramall Lane and have drifted from 13/2 to 8/1 in the Championship title odds as a consequence.

The Blades scored just 20 goals in the Premier League last season and as we pointed out in last weekend’s preview the majority of their games were settled by a single goal, so we go 14/5 on the visitors to win by a one-goal margin of victory.

That was even the case on Wednesday night when Rhian Brewster’s first goal for the club since joining United from Liverpool last summer secured a 1-0 Carabao Cup victory against League Two side Carlisle and a second-round meeting with Derby.

A victory by under 3.5 goals can be backed at 19/10, a win to nil is 11/4 or it’s 11/2 by a 1-0 scoreline in our Swansea v Sheff Utd betting tips.

Swansea made a disappointing start to the season with a 2-1 defeat at Blackburn but bounced back with a 3-0 win against a youthful Reading side with an average age of 19 in the Carabao Cup so we should not read too much into Tuesday’s result.

Martin made just six changes for the first-round victory and they are available at 2/1 to win at the Liberty Stadium or 21/10 to draw, while under 1.5 goals in the first half, two or fewer in the second and either team to win is available at 5/4.

Talking Tactics

Jokanovic went with a plain 4-4-2 for Saturday’s defeat but played three at the back in a 3-4-3 against the Cumbrians during which Billy Sharp spearheaded the attack, with Brewster and Tyler Smith either side, although Oliver McBurnie played the whole of the second half.

The Serb made 11 changes for Tuesday’s win and is expected to swap things around again although striker Lys Mousset is unlikely to feature after sustaining an injury against Birmingham.

Martin likes to play with three defenders in either a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2 formation and encourages his players to keep the ball as their 72% possession stats showed at Ewood Park.

Goalscorer Odds

Jokanovic has plenty of strikers at his disposal so it may pay dividends to wait until the starting line-ups are announced before making a decision.

Brewster, Sharp and McBurnie are all 5/1 and 23/10 in the first and anytime goalscorer markets, while Oli Burke is 6/1 and 13/5.

Swansea striker Jamal Lowe is also 5/1 to break the deadlock and Jamie Paterson, who scored City’s consolation at the weekend, is 13/2 and 14/5 in both markets.
