Switzerland v Spain betting tips and preview

Spain are the new 3/1 favourites to win Euro 2020 following their incredible extra-time victory over Croatia coupled with France’s dramatic penalty shoot-out exit at the hands of Switzerland.

The Swiss are the next opponents for the 2008 and 2012 champions and if we get half the excitement of Monday’s magical matches we’ll still be in for a treat.

Luis Enrique’s side are 4/6 to win in 90 minutes in the first of Friday’s quarter-finals, so let’s look at some of the odds and markets in our Switzerland v Spain betting tips.

Match Odds

Both teams were involved in thrilling last-16 matches, with each finishing 3-3 at the end of normal time.

Switzerland missed a penalty to go 2-0 up against the world champions but with nine minutes to go they were 3-1 down only for Haris Seferovic and Mario Gavranovic to force extra time.

Spain overcame a first-half howler of an own goal to lead 3-1 with five minutes to go but substitutes Mislav Orsic and Mario Pasalic ensured another half an hour when Alvaro Morata and Mikel Oyarzabal secured a 5-3 victory.

The teams have met three times in the last three years, two of which were draws just like their last-16 matches which is available at 27/10 while another 3-3 contest is priced at 80/1.

The Swiss finished third behind Italy and Wales in Group A, not that you would have known it, and they are 17/4 to win in St Petersburg or 11/5 to qualify for the semi-finals.

Although the excitement could not have got much higher in Monday’s games, the last three meetings between the teams have produced two or fewer goals which is priced at 3/4.

Two of those encounters finished 1-1 which can be backed at 11/2 while Spain to win and both teams to score is 11/4, with the Swiss 9/1 in the same market

Talking Tactics

Switzerland were unchanged from the side that beat Turkey 3-1 in the group stage and barring injuries head coach Vladimir Petkovic is likely to stick with a 3-4-1-2 formation in which Xherdan Shaqiri plays behind Seferovic and Breel Embolo.

Granit Xhaka produced an all-action man-of-the-match display in the heart of midfield but the Swiss star is suspended for the game in St Petersburg.

Luis Enrique replaced Jordi Alba with Jose Gaya at left-back and Manchester City striker Ferran Torres was excellent starting instead of Gerard Moreno in a 4-3-3 formation but the Spain coach is likely to make changes once more.

Goalscorer Odds

Seferovic is 15/2 to repeat his breakthrough goal against France or 33/1 to score two or more against a Spanish defence which looked vulnerable against Croatia.

Ricardo Rodriguez had a penalty saved by Hugo Lloris on Monday and should he be given the chance to atone for that miss from 12 yards, the defender is 10/1 to score at any time or 22/1 to break the deadlock in our Switzerland v Spain betting tips.

Pablo Sarabia and Torres scored in Spain’s 5-0 win against Slovakia and the 5-3 victory over Croatia and are 5/1 and 9/2 respectively to break the deadlock or 9/4 and 5/2 to find the net while the much-maligned Alvaro Morata is 10/3 and 13/8 in the same markets having scored the winner on Monday in what was an excellent performance.
