Uruguay v Colombia betting tips: Crucial match in Montevideo

| 03.10.2021

Uruguay v Colombia betting tips and preview

Uruguay and Colombia meet for the third time inside a year in an important World Cup qualifier in Montevideo.

The hosts are the 21/20 favourites to exact revenge for a quarter-final defeat by Colombia at the Copa America in July which was settled by a penalty shoot-out.

Both teams are in the running for one of the four spots available at Qatar so let’s look at the options in Thursday’s Uruguay v Colombia betting tips.

Match Odds

Uruguay are handily placed in third spot in South American qualifying but losing to Colombia could see them slip out of the top four so avoiding defeat is crucial.

Although Oscar Tabarez’s side missed out on a semi-final spot in Brazil, they have not lost inside 90 minutes in their last four encounters with Colombia, two of which ended all square and that option is available at 21/10.

The other two matches resulted in 3-0 wins for Uruguay who are 19/10 to win to nil once again or 16/1 for a victory by that scoreline, while we go 29/20 on the hosts pulling through by under 3.5 goals.

Colombia drew against Paraguay and Bolivia in September, but a 3-1 victory over Chile meant they moved level on points with fourth-placed Ecuador who have a superior goal difference.

Los Cafeteros have, therefore, scored and conceded in their last five matches and a repeat is available at 11/10 in our Uruguay v Colombia betting tips.

Colombia have been trailing inside 10 minutes in three of their nine matches, including a 3-0 home defeat by Uruguay who are available at 6/1 to be leading after a quarter of an hour.

Talking Tactics

Uruguay went with a 4-4-2 in that match when Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani predictably led the line, while Colombia opted for a 4-3-3 in which James Rodriguez spearheaded the attack accompanied by Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel.

James was missing for the clash with Uruguay and is still injured having yet to make his debut for Laurent Blanc’s Al Rayyan in Qatar.

Miguel Borja is also out injured which could prompt a call-up for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Goalscorer Odds

Suarez is the 10/3 favourite to get the ball rolling having scored four goals in qualifying, three more than Cavani who is 7/2 to break the deadlock or 13/8 to find the net.

Giorgian de Arrascaeta has struck three times and is 9/1 and 4/1 in the two markets as part of our Uruguay v Colombia betting tips.

Radamel Falcao is the 13/2 favourite to draw first blood from the Colombian contingent, but he is not guaranteed to start so Zapata may be a better option at 7/1 and 16/5.
