Ladbrokes top price on Henderson going to World Cup

| 31.03.2014

Ladbrokes are offering the top industry price on at least six players that look more or less certainties to be in England’s final 23-man party travelling to the World Cup.

However, the excitement levels to back Leighton Baines at 1/20 or Gary Cahill at 1/14 must be about as on par with discovering that boy band Blue are to release a sixth compilation Greatest Hits album.

The decibel level should increase slightly for seeing James Milner at 2/5 and Phil Jones at 4/9, as the versatility of this pair from a positional stance means Roy Hodgson will find it difficult to leave them behind.

But the loudest cheer should be saved for Ladbrokes offering the best price on Jordan Henderson, with the 8/11 on offer looking even more generous after the midfielder’s display against Tottenham, in which he rounded off the scoring in the 4-0 win.

Henderson is one of the key components of Liverpool’s high tempo, pressing-based game, often quickly closing down opponents in the final third to force mistakes.

Meanwhile, he has developed a useful habit of scoring goals in winning performances, as the 10 games he has scored in have ended in nine victories and a draw.

The big problem for England is that Hodgson favours a more conservative strategy, often preferring to keep the shackles on in midfield and leaving the attacking to his front three.

This does nullify Henderson’s game, but given that conditions in Brazil are sure to be hot and humid for the most part, his energy and workrate could prove a valuable asset.

Furthermore, if Liverpool end up winning the Premier League, it is arguably wrong to leave behind any of the club’s Englishmen that heavily contributed to this success.

Ladbrokes are offering a World Cup special of 9/4 that Liverpool quintet Henderson, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge, Glen Johnson and Raheem Stirling all make England’s final 23.
