Spain are the favourites in World Cup Qualifying Group B odds

Preview and betting tips for World Cup Qualifying Group B

Spain and Sweden were group rivals at Euro 2020 and are doing battle once more as we assess the World Cup Qualifying Group B odds.

Sweden defied the odds to come out on top at the European Championship and will need to do so again if they are to secure automatic qualification for World Cup 2022.

Spain are the 1/4 favourites and could be a dark horse in World Cup winner odds but have already dropped points and the value may be with 3/1 shots Sweden, who held them to a goalless draw in their opening match at the Euros.

Luis Enrique’s men had to settle for a 1-1 draw in their first World Cup qualifier against Greece and were far from convincing against Georgia, when the same result was on the cards until a stoppage-time goal from Dani Olmo saw them come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory.

A 3-1 win at home to Kosovo means they are top of the Group B table but they have played a game more than Sweden, who have won their first two matches so are effectively in the driving seat.

Sweden are yet to concede, too, having beaten Georgia 1-0 and Kosovo 3-0, so they have plenty of reason to be confident when the campaign resumes in September with Sweden hosting Spain in what could prove to be a pivotal match on the road to Qatar.

Greece still hopeful

A draw in that game would allow third-placed Greece to gain ground and they are the only other team with a realistic chance in the World Cup Qualifying Group B odds at 14/1.

Greece are unbeaten so far but while the draw with Spain in Granada will be seen as a point gained, they failed to build on that as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Georgia.

They are without a game on Matchday 4 but then face Kosovo before hosting Sweden in early September and back-to-back wins would put them firmly in the mix for a top-two finish.

Georgia and Kosovo look set to battle it out to avoid finishing bottom of Group B.

Georgia have managed just one point from their first three matches and are the 500/1 outsiders in the World Cup Qualifying Group B odds while Kosovo are 250/1 after losing their first two games.

The two teams meet when World Cup qualifying resumes on September 2.
