Grand National Specials: 16/1 for a female jockey to win the race

The 2019 Grand National is less than three weeks away and our traders have been busy pricing up a vast array of specials ahead of the big day.
We go 16/1 that 2019 is the year a female jockey makes history and rides the winner in the Grand National, following Bryony Frost’s fifth on Milansbar 12 months ago.
Frost won’t be at Aintree this time around after sustaining a broken collarbone at Southwell, although Rachael Blackmore and Lizzie Kelly both have chances.
One-time National winner Ruby Walsh is the joint-favourite to ride the winner. He’s available at 10/1 alongside Cheltenham Festival top jockey Barry Geraghty.
Unsurprisingly it’s the Irish who dominate the trainer markets, with Gordon Elliott 2/1 to saddle the winner ahead of Willie Mullins at 4/1.
Elliott has the favourite in Tiger Roll, so it’s no shock to see Gigginstown Stud as the ownership group most likely to have the winner at 5/2.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “As women continue to make history in racing, it is only a matter of time before a female rider wins the Grand National as far as we are concerned.”
“Although Bryony Frost won’t be amongst the riders this year, the odds are still shorter than 2018 that the most famous race in the world is won by a woman”, McGeady continued.
