Thursday 19th March: What sport is on?

| 18.03.2020

The sporting calendar continues to look a bit thin on the ground, but there’s still sport to enjoy if you know where to look.

Here’s our round-up of what’s scheduled to go ahead on Thursday 19th March.

It’s the start of a new season in the Belarussian Premier League, with two matches scheduled to go ahead as the campaign gets underway.

First Zvezda Va Bgu Minsk entertain last year’s league runners-up and regular Champions League entrants BATE Borisov at 14:00, with BATE 1/4 favourites for the three points.

Then Shakhter Soligorsk will take on Torpedo Belaz at 16:00, with the hosts odds-on at 2/5 in the match betting.

Horse Racing

Racing at Turffontein in South Africa continues, with a 10-race card starting at 10:25 in the morning.

That’s supported by a double header in the USA, with cards at Gulfstream (from 17:00) and Golden Gate Fields (from 19:45) going ahead, both of which are live on Sky Sports Racing.

And there are seven meetings in Australia, starting from the early hours on Thursday, including Albury, Terang, Pinjarra and Newcastle.

Greyhounds remains largely unaffected, and Thursday sees a mighty 13 meetings poised to go ahead.

It should get underway with the 8:12 at Waterford, with further meetings at Sunderland, Central Park, Perry Barr, Crayford and Sheffield during the day.

Evening Greyhounds comes from Hove, Monmore, Newcastle and Limerick.

On court action continues over in the Taiwan Super Basketball League, with Taiwan Beer fairly comfortable 1/40 favourites to beat Jeoutai Basketball, before Puaian take on Yulon Luxgen Dinos.

And there’s a Vladivostok derby in the Russian MLBL, with TGMU Vladivostok 1/3 favourites to defeat Basket Club.

NRL and Aussie Rules

Rugby fans can still tuck in to some top-level action, with the NRL still in play. Canterbury Bulldogs take on North Queensland Cowboys at 09:05 in the morning, with the Cowboys 8/11 favourites for the win.

Aussie Rules is another sport which remains largely un-impeded at this stage.

A full round of games is set to go ahead this weekend, starting with Richmond Tigers v Carlton Blues at 08:35 on Thursday morning.  The Tigers are 1/3 favourites on the money line.

The world of eSports is managing to keep going too, with a pair of LPL Pro matches to enjoy on Thursday morning.

That’s joined by a heap of eSport contests in various leagues, including the ESEA Advanced Europe, Sigul Pro, Legends Pro and GBB Championship.

Richard Marsh

Richard loves his sport, especially if it involves the sound of tyres screaming around a race track. He's not fussy though and his '90s Premier League nostalgia and knowledge of team nicknames is tough to match.
