Horse Racing: Best backed horses ahead of Royal Ascot
Published:Royal Ascot begins next week and our traders have revealed the best backed horses for the Gold Cup and more.
Topping the list is Stradivarius who has been hugely popular in the Ascot Gold Cup. In the last 48 hours, he has gone from 5/6 to just 8/11.
Japan is another attracting strong support in recent days for the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and is 5/4 from 15/8.
In the Commonwealth Cup, Pierre Lapin is one for the bookies to fear. The Roger Varian-trained colt is seemingly the one everyone wants to be with at odds of 4/1.
Elsewhere, other horses who could inflict damage next week include Battaash in the King’s Stand Stakes who has been cut to 10/11 from 7/4 in the last week, while Pinatubo (11/8) would be a bad result for bookies in the St James’s Palace Stakes despite his 2000 Guineas defeat.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “It hasn’t been your typical lead up to Royal Ascot given the unclear running plans and no early entries but there are still a number of horses who have inspired plenty of confidence.
“Stradivarius is the worst result in the book right now, but we also approach the week fearing the likes of Japan, Battaash, Pierre Lapin, and Pinatubo.”
