International Racing Betting Tips: Our Trader talks Happy Valley

| 05.05.2020

It’s another busy day of Horse Racing on Wednesday. Our specialist Christopher Neale has earmarked the action from Happy Valley in Hong Kong.

Let’s check out the latest odds and preview for the nine-race card…

Zac Purton’s treble at Sha Tin on Sunday means he is now just one behind rival Joao Moreira in the Jockey’s Championship as the battles rages on at Happy Valley on Wednesday with both riders securing a full book of nine rides each.

Purton has a superior record of 43 wins to Moreira’s 30 at the downtown track this season, he will be hoping he can draw level or surpass his rival after Wednesday’s nine race card.

Zac Purton booked rides – Loriz (11.45), Rich And Lucky (12.15), Bright Kid (12.45), Eptiwins (13.15), Momentum Galaxy (13.45), Be Ready (14.15), Reel Bizzy (14.45), Island Shine (15.15), Dances With Dragon (15.50)

Joao Moreira booked rides – Monkey Jewellery (11.45), Royal Racer (12.15), Yee Cheong Pegasus (12.45), Lightning Speed (13.15), Harmony N Home (13.45), Special Stars (14.15), Best Alliance (14.45), Whiskey Neat (15.15), Enrichment (15.50)

Gladiolus Handicap (11:45)

Loriz was on the front end of a furious pace last time out over 7f at Sha Tin, understandably fading in the final furlong. Loriz is firmly one of the favourites in the opening race and is 2/1 with Zac Purton on board for the first time.

Super Lucky is a course and distance winner in admirably consistent form of late and looks sure to be battling out the finish as long as the outside draw isn’t too much of an inconvenience. Super Lucky is 7/1 to be first over the line.

Lotus Handicap (12:15)

Royal Racer is winless this season, albeit running some very encouraging performances. Could Joao Moreira make amends in the 12:15?

King’s Man was beaten by just a head last time out over this trip posting some eye-catching closing sectionals and needs considering again here at 10/1.

Gladiolus Handicap (12:45)

Since joining Tony Millard’s yard Yee Cheong Pegasus hasn’t finished outside the top two and could be a cut above this field at 13/8.

Bright Kid has his first start for trainer Chris So and with Zac Purton on board is certainly one to watch at 9/2, especially if well supported in the betting.

Lotus Handicap (13:15)

Lightning Steed is always quick out the stalls and could be hard to peg back here out of gate two if securing an easy lead.

Methane encountered some traffic issues last time out but still managed to finish third, only half a length behind the winner. If granted a clear run here, it will be no surprise to see him back in the winner’s circle.

Gladiolus Handicap (13:45)

An impressive winner last time out, Destine Jewellery stayed on well at the finish for a cosy victory. There is every chance of adding a second career win here with 9/2 odds if in the same vein of form.

Returning from a 5 month break, Jazz Steed put in an encouraging recent barrier trial and could be one to spring a surprise here in the 13:45.

Carnation Handicap (14:15)

Flying Genius is well drawn in stall two and a bold bid from the front under the talented Karis Teetan looks inevitable. This two-time Course and Distance winner could figure strongly.

Larson (6/1) is a consistent sort who will give the main selection a run for his money but will need to be at the top of his game from the outside draw.

Chamomile Handicap (14:45)

An open looking handicap in which none can be dismissed but it may pay siding with Such A Happiness, who has improved since joining Tony Millard last month.

Alpha Hedge was a disappointing favourite last time out in a race that wasn’t run to suit. A much-improved performance can be expected this time round.

Celosia Handicap (15:15)

California Rad (5/1) was a cosy winner last time out over 6f and should take this step up in class in his stride with further improvement expected.

The penny dropped late on for Superb Daddy last time out in first time blinkers, making up good ground towards the finish. The blinkers stay on here and warrants consideration with jockey Victor Wong claiming 5lbs.

Camellia Handicap (15:50)

Private Secretary has been beaten by several in this field but won three times in the UK when trained by John Gosden before winning his debut at this venue back in December.

Enrichment has been the bridesmaid in his last three outings but has obvious claims in his current form and looks sure to run a big race with Moreira in the saddle.
