Paul Townend: Cilaos Emery can go well in Webster Cup Chase
Published:Ladbrokes ambassador Paul Townend has a quiet weekend ahead of next week’s Cheltenham Festival meeting.
The two-time Gold Cup winner has two rides at Navan on Saturday and has high hopes for Cilaos Emery in the Webster Cup Chase.
Saturday
His maiden hurdle form worked out very well with Flame Bearer, who went on to win twice. He looks a very good horse. Bronn was very disappointing at the Dublin Racing Festival unfortunately.
He was beaten by a long way and never really got going. He has to put that behind him. He is open to improvement but so are plenty of others in the race. We hope he is better than he showed at Leopardstown but it’s a fact-finding mission.
He unseated the last day and it was a very poor run over hurdles at Punchestown before that. If he can recapture his run at Thurles where he won under Brian Hayes then he will take all the beating in this and this is my best ride on Saturday.
